Has to pub forum got too out of control? Should I close this forum and we enforce Motorcycle topics only?

Please vote. This poll is open for 10 days.

I think the pub is good but could do without where some of the threads go and definitely without the conspiracy theory crap. I realize that it's a PITA for you and L.A.B to moderate. You could consider someone very active and level-headed to be a moderator for the pub. This bright idea comes from TriumphRat which has lots of moderators.

Bad idea to close the pub
If people don't like it don't go in
It's very simple
It helps stop derailment from serious posts
The unfortunate thing is I have to go in and moderate it. I am sure its ok for you all. I don't like playing god. Personally I am not politically minded, so don't want to know about these global news and political updates. I don't even watch or read the news. I only read Motorcycle News.

My policy is to close threads based upon user complaints. That seems to work, but for someone to complain, they are usually pissed off by then. Once I close a thread, then the problem poster starts crying to me about why the thread got closed. So I get stuck in the middle lol Gets old.

The GOOD "Pub" type forum sections all understand that in 'real' pubs, you get feelings hurt, wildly differing views, arguments, and even gun fights (BESIDES the usual great topics)

Don't like it? Go to a Burger Joint.

Hey! New forum section - Norton Burgers! Only family-friendly chatting about the weather, kittens, and what soap you use to wash your motorcycle.

But what do we call it?
"K&K Burgers"?

I don't disagree with you, and TomU's idea of removing restrictions has merit too. However, when people start acting like children, name calling, defaming, lying, and generally being a-holes it's not a pub. In a pub, no one would dare say some of the things said here since a straight right to the nose might be the response or at least a direct confrontation. Here, it's sometimes a public personal attack. If people would "take it outside" (PM) it would be better for all.

I don’t envy you Jerry - I supervised construction crews for years and never liked being the heavy although some thought I did . Caught in the middle between employees and owners . Nothing would have made me happier than the simple act of arriving on time , work safely and efficiently, don’t let the coffee breaks and lunch breaks get to the point where you have to be told it’s time to get back to work, - or the owners recognizing that someone has to steer the ship beyond the office world , blah blah blah …
but that’s reality.
I enjoy the pub and beyond that , as others have noted, I think it’s a sort of relief valve to keep some meanderings out of the more purposeful venues.
I hope you will keep it open and maybe you don’t hear it as often as you should so thanks for all you do to give us this great site - it truly is one of the best.

Cheers - RT

Based upon initial poll results, is staying open.

Ironically, this topic has made me want to venture into the pub to see what prompted this vote...
;-)

I think one of the issues here is that I don't see problems until its too late. I usually only check once a day and sometimes less if I am busy. I have added a "flag" in the pub forum for now, where each post has to be approved by me before it shows up. That will probably help as I will stop things before they get out of control. I hope to be able to remove this later. Lets see how it goes now... The only problem of course is I have to check more often.
