"Is there any charging system for Nortons that will adequately charge the Li batteries? "
Well, as I stated earlier, the Lucas RM23 alternator or the Alton that comes as part of their E-start works fine. I just returned to the bike after 3 months and the Shorai voltage was 13.42, which is greater than a 90% charge. There was no trickle charging involved. If it can show that after 3 months, clearly the charging system was adequate. I can't argue with shorai's recommendation for 13+ vdc at idle but the reality with two years on the battery is that either of the two above systems easily maintain it. The idle on my bike is approx 900 RPM. The alton puts out a bit over 13 at that RPM; the Lucas slightly under. I ran the Lucas and the Alton each for approx half the time I have had the Shorai. Alternating those systems wasn't my plan but that's a different story,
IOW, I'm confident that the two above systems, with good wiring/connections/additional grounds (all part of normal Norton concerns) are adequate for the Shorai.
FWIW, one one occasion about a year ago I accidentally left the bike's ignition switch on all night. When I came out the next day, the Shorai would spin the starter but bogged at the compression. Batt voltage was 5.92! I figured I had destroyed my battery. But I connected a trickle charger and a few hours later, voltage was in the 13's and the batt spun the starter as normal as it has continued to do. I know I sound like an ad for Shorai but to me it's the perfect batt for the Commando.
