Shorai batteries

Gents,

I like Shorai batteries anyway cos they’re light. I have them on my 850 Cdo and ‘68 Bonnie. Which means I’m also set up with the proper Shorai charger etc.

So I’m thinking to put one on the 961 when I get it.

I’ve never actually fitted one to an electric leg bike though. Which is kinda ironic coz one of their big claims is the increased cranking ampage and better starting.

So... my question is, is this true? Is there any discernible bennefit, starting wise, with a Shorai on these bikes?

I have the Shoria batteries on both my Dominator Naked and Commando sf. No problems what so ever. Love them.

I wish could have left mine installed. When I had ran into problems with the initial charge I opted to swap it out for the original battery because it's such a PITA to trouble shoot and/or maintain a battery that's located underneath the fuel tank. Since installing it in my Triumph S3 I have had little to complain about.

When I purchased my 2013 Commando SE at the end of October of this year, I was more than pleased that the original owner had replaced the stock battery with a Shorai. I had a Shorai for quite a number of years on my GS Adventure. I was in some pretty unforgiving places with, at times, very cold temperatures on many trips throughout the American West. That battery never failed to do its job!

I can start my 961 at 25 Deg F with my Shorai . See thread 961 starts thread just a little while ago.

I have the Shorai since almost two years and over 5‘000 miles installed now.
Only problem was corroded charging plug. Be aware to keep this one dry. I did put silicon grease now on the spare charging cable and keep it under the tank in a dry place...

Shorai LFX18A1-BS12 Lithium-Iron is the one I used. That's what crosses to the stock yuasa , I have a 2014 Sport . But battery is the same on Domi , right ?

I'm sure they're the same. You guys feel the need for the charger? I'm going to get one anyway but wondering if it needs charging comparable with the OEM battery?

I didn't want to gamble on maintaining it correctly, so I got one at the same time. It is interesting however that I needed to use a standard charger to initialize my battery after it wouldn't fully charge the first time. o_O

Dang, the reviews on Revzilla are terrible. Cold weather apparently is its Achilles heel and guess what king of weather we have in NYC? Its freezing! Is this the best option really?

That's why I did the Shorai cold weather start test with my 961. Look it up , And I am not saying it is the best option. It is the lightest option for sure. As long as you are above freezing it should be ok . My testing went down to 25 Deg. F with good results. I bought my Shorai because of its light weight mostly and the fact that the 961 battery is carried high under the gas tank.

Tony I read it shortly after I wrote that and now I'm not as concerned as before. I'm going to order one later.

I went out and started my 961 yesterday morning. The Shorai has been on the Battery Tender since Fall . It was 15 deg F and it started . It took some coaxing and 2 minutes headlamp warm up. BUT , it started !

It came yesterday. Nice kit. Took about an hour to install but it fired the bike up right out the box. Went for a 5mi ride around the city and all seems well. Left it on the Shorai charger in "Store" mode as that appears best for my needs.

Hello , So that charger gives you a choice between store and other modes ? What other modes are there ?
