Have any of you shipped a bike from us to Ireland/England? My 65th is coming around and I'm ready to treat myself right w/a special trip. Ireland, England, Scotland, wales,Belgium on either my '72 or 4. I've been there before hitchhiking and walking, staying in hostels. Just wondering about getting him over. His passport has been applied for.

Yes, that is is a splendid B'day plan! You may want to look into working a rental or purchase/buy back with one of the many vintage dealers in the UK. Should be significantly less expensive and probably less aggravating than shipping your own bike back and forth. Just remember to look right and drive left!

Ive shipped an Indian over to Ireland .It was a slow process (8-9 weeeks).Bike was picked up in Cork.As I was sending it over for my friend to ride it he had to clear it through customs etc so I don't know what you would need to do.He no longer needs it so its coming back.I believe the return pickup location will be in Rathcoole near Dublin. It costs about $800 each way.The Bike had one scratch on the rear fender on arrival but I cant say for sure if it was the companies fault or traveling on the ocean. What was cool was I only had to drain the fuel really low and not all the fluids.

i reckon i'll be figuring something else out. knew it would be pricey but not that pricey. maybe back road it out to the west coast and back thru canada. thanx, rick

No endorsement, just think you should look at all your options.

As for spendy, let's put it this way, how many more opportunities are you going to have to ride YOUR bike in Europe? Just do it. Your kids don't need the inheritance...

I am with Swooshdave on this and I am almost your age, it is just money and you cannot take it with you.

Yeah, that's why i've spent all mine on bikes, so I can take them with me!

Ummmm....

I CAN take them with me, right???

well for 3690 bucks i will pass for this lifetime. maybe i will ride it to chicago next st. patties and pretend i am in ireland with the help of a couple hundred beers. maybe we could ride to ny and stowaway on a freighter. i better put this to rest. if wifey found out about this notion germinating in me..........

I've shipped many bikes from San Francisco ... $500.00 one way to Rotterdam or UK ... No crate: they travel in container with cars sold overseas . Around 6 weeks. You are on your own for the return!

Hey GP, according to the good book, yep!

Hi Scooter, I live in Dublin, close to the port, and it would be easy to contact a shipping agent if necessary. I know a few people in the trade who import bikes from the US, so I could try to find out what the going price is. Let me know if you need more information from this side of the pond.

Swooshdave. I went to the link in your post and from Chicago to Shannon and back from Glasgow to Chicago was 3690. If I could get in and out for a g I might do it. Hey I plan to and hope to live well into my 80's so this isn't a swan song by any means. As long as I can kick start I'm ridin'. Even modified my gym routine for more potent kickstart. Goal is to make kickstart lever cringe as I approach him. I'm starting to sound like hobot. That would be an improvement from my usual. Been into the #7 for an hour or so and am waxing poetic. Good night

Now to be fair that link was for air freight. The other quotes were something like $800 each way. Keep looking, there are plenty of people who can help.

The inland freight is the most expensive bit, aim to start and finish at ports with a regular service to the US port nearest to your location. Glasgow port for instance only has feeder services to larger ports, Liverpool has at least one direct service to the US and was used by US riders to get to the IOM for the 2008 BSA Int rally.
