I just purchased a Norton that I found in a garage yesterday. Its in good shape but missing the tank and side panel piece. I trying to confirm the model and year of the bike by any numbers that I can find on the bike. I was told that it is a 1975 8500cc. The serial number on the frame, under the handle bars reads 850334006. Does this translate to anything or should I be looking for another number? This is my first Norton so sorry if its a far out question!
Thank,
john

No, that's fine, *850*334006* should identify it as a 1975 Commando 850 Mk3 with electric starter, left foot shift and rear disc brake. The engine and gearbox numbers should also be 334006 if they are original.

It may have been built as either a Roadster, Interstate, (or less likely, a Hi-Rider or Interpol model) depending on which style of tank and side panels (and seat) it had originally.

Dang it, Lab. The program is, I post, THEN you correct.

That appears to be a good 75 850 MkIII number.
The actual number being 334006.

Wow that was quick! It does have a starter in a box of parts that came with it. It also has 2 seats, one is flat and the other is longer and looks like its made for a passenger.
Thank you very much!!
