Good luck eastern USA.. I have a son in Philly.. thinking of you guys....see you on the other side of the moon

Greg Perth West Australia

So far so good but we had some time to prepare. Oil changed in the generator and gassed up. Big ham beam antenna cranked down the tower. The forecasted wind speeds scare me. We are in the woods surrounded by tall trees. A lot of them already went down in big storm last year.

My Dad lives in Barnegat Light about 4 houses back from the beach. He evacuated to the mainland yesterday. He is hoping his house is still there!

Thanks for the good wishes. I now have 2 of my kids living down near Philly so if your son needs anything let us know.

im stuck on a cruise ship, they reversed the itinerary and we barely got out of the way.

Hope alls well for our folks inthe northeast!!!

im here in columbia, talked to the wife back home in california and she says its 70 degrees no wind beautiful out :( im sure by te time i get back its gonna be raining or something.

Hasn't been that bad here, yet. Slightly breezy and light rain, but I'm only 30 miles or so from WV. Looks like the center is going to go right between Phila and Baltimore. Yup, generator gassed up, extra cans full. We were without power for 6 days after that Derecho, but the generator runs everything except A/C and the clothes dryer.

Sandy just sank the Bounty ! Crazy covered up and bungeed tight down outside in 65 kmh. huge gusts and driving rain. Power outs and trees down and we are in Toronto !

It's a huge storm. We're probably 150 miles away from where it just came ashore in NJ and now the winds are about 45 or so, the power went off at 7 so the generator is holding it's own. Lots of limbs down and over 3" of rain so far. We're in the thick of it now. Daylight will tell.

Toronto, ey, you're probably 500 miles away, but this storm is 1000 miles across. Holy Cow.

Maybe there'll be some nice clear riding after this.

Good Luck Blokes ~

Yours is a late season deal eh?

Our season is about to start i.e. November ~ Hope it is not a sign !!

We got caught out in 2005 with Cyclone Larry ~ No generator ~ The last one <12 months> ago, "Yasi" ; just missed us but we were still out of power grid for some five days ~ but we have three generators !!

Not much fun ~

But hey this is not about us but about you peeps ~

Our best wishes for a safe passage ~

Ugh. Tree fell on the house poking a hole through the roof. I'm sure the whole area of that roof will need repairing and new shingles, and I just had it done. Ugh. Listened to water drip all night. No sign of electricity or phone.

Running off the generator today. Extension cords are strung throughout the house. We lost power at 8pm last night. Everything OK here though. A big hickory fell just missing the house and branches are everywhere but nothing hurt my new little Solstice GXP or the garage!

Last night the wind was roaring. Really scary!

man im sorry to see that happened to you, hope the fix isnt too horrible and your in good spirits. i guess the wind must have been absolutely whipping with that size of a tree ripping out.

News looks pretty devastating this morning in Sandy's wake, I hope y'all are safe, and know we are here for you if we can help with anything in getting back up to speed.

That's a tough break, Dave; really sorry to see that, but glad there was no physical injury to make it worse.

here in the mountains of north east TN the wind has not been to bad but the snow started Sunday night and calling for it the next 24 hours. they are predicting a foot of the white stuff. I lost the front driveshaft yesterday morning and had to cross the mountain in 1 wheel drive (no limited slip) to get a new U joint. needless to say it was a 10MPH drive on icey roads and was quit treacherous. here are some pictures. the first one is of the truck windshield and the bottom one is of the road coming in to my place.

Wow sorry about your roof Dave, however I have to say it looks like you live in a beautiful part of the country. I wonder if that crane is still hanging in New York? I can't believe they can sell condos in that area starting at 16.5 Mill and up!! And to think, I was going to move there a few years ago! I don't think I could last ONE winter! Well hope you all are safe.

Warm and calmer but wet and grey. Crazy lasted out the superstorm by tarp wrap tightly down with bungees. Angled her into the winds too. Wrong place -wrong time for the poor woman who received the Staples sign to her head. Several big fires here too from swaying electrical lines. Leafage everywhere, sticks.

There are 3 guys working on the tree, they have the bulk of the limbs off, and are using another tree as a crane to lift off pieces of the offending tree. The cranes are all tied up, so they're going to take it down a bit at a time. It's still drizzling out and about 40 deg F. At least I can get into town and buy gas so I can keep the generator running. What a day, or couple of days. I've got the incoming water funneled into a bucket with plastic sheets, so it's not doing any more damage to the walnut stairway, the roof will need lots of repair as well as the ceiling/insulation inside which is punctured.

If the roof had been made with trusses, the tree would have probably gone to the floor and mashed me in bed. Luckily I used 2x12 rafters so they seem to be holding up.

I need a Margarita. At least I have $1000 deductible.

It could have been lots worse, it could have messed up the bike.
