Royal Pain

I'd like to see what the pending (Mahendra) BSA 750 is going to look like, and when it's scheduled to be released.
Looks like the modern classic niche is getting more interesting.

The recently styled Royal Enfield Continental Cafe Racer is rather smart, but it comes from the direction of a cheaply made mass market bike which has slightly evolved from the original British item. You get kind of ok build quality but not a lot of power and a true retro (not in a good way) riding experience. Enfields are reasonably cheap - ideal for anyone who fancies a bike but doesn't want to buy into the whole biker lifestyle thing. Perfect for Sunday pub runs and evenings fiddling and polishing.

For a nice little retro bike I would go with the tiny AJS Cadwell which is what I originally intended to get when I decided to get back into motorcycling. The build quality is ok and spares in the UK are ridiculously cheap. For the price of the 961 CR I eventually bought (!!!!!) I could have bought 11 of them...

One good bike is infinitely superior to 11 crap bikes...!

I like the retro styling on the RS, not too crazy about the RS cafe though.
470 Lbs wet, and 110HP/76lbft torque, seems like it would be a fun ride.
But no match for the 961 in the looks department.

Honda has a new retro for 2018 also.

Holy crap!

I just stumbled on this video of the 2018 Honda CB1000R.
It redefines the term hideously tasteless.

Actually, I thought I was posting the link for the RS. You are right, much nicer and good job of mocking the Z1. Nigel, dull as dishwater was pretty much what we all thought when the British bikes bit the dust. I still have reservations about "turning Japanese" but I like the Z900RS!! Fred. That Honda is hideous IMHO.

One thing I wish Kawasaki would adopt is the cross plane crank, like the Yamaha R1.
Really changes the way a 4 banger delivers its power. Much smoother, less peaky, sweet midrange.
Sounds much better than the typical 180 degree 4 cylinder motors too.

I think I'll visit the Kaw display at the IMS on December 1st, and check out the RS.
