The recently styled Royal Enfield Continental Cafe Racer is rather smart, but it comes from the direction of a cheaply made mass market bike which has slightly evolved from the original British item. You get kind of ok build quality but not a lot of power and a true retro (not in a good way) riding experience. Enfields are reasonably cheap - ideal for anyone who fancies a bike but doesn't want to buy into the whole biker lifestyle thing. Perfect for Sunday pub runs and evenings fiddling and polishing.
For a nice little retro bike I would go with the tiny AJS Cadwell which is what I originally intended to get when I decided to get back into motorcycling. The build quality is ok and spares in the UK are ridiculously cheap. For the price of the 961 CR I eventually bought (!!!!!) I could have bought 11 of them...
