Ad Age Media just announced that Newsweek magazine is running a retro ad campaign honoring the successful AMC series "Mad Men". The series portrays ad agency lifestyle in the 1950s. Newsweek encouraged advertisers to design ad campaigns styled for that era with subtle updates to their current products and/or services. Ad Age Media is running an Internet contest to award the best of these ads.

Triumph Motorcycles has surprisingly ran an ad in Newsweek based on their Steve McQueen/Bonneville campaign. This is an unusual advertising strategy for Triumph since nearly all of their marketing initiatives target the motorcycle community direct rather that the general public. Triumph is competing with some very powerful brands and campaigns in this Newsweek issue. Let's give Triumph support for this new innovative ad campaign!

Please click on the following link and vote for the Triumph ad.

Nice link rx7171

Voted! Triumph ad is leading at 19% :D

The Triumph ad may be competing with powerful brands, but nothing comes close to the iconic Steve McQueen and a bike!!!

I love the old adverts and posters, they have a certain classic style to them, and these retro ads would make brilliant posters, especially the Triumph one, with Spam coming a close psychedelic second. Our walls are covered with old style pictures like the Cunard cruise liners and LNER / GWR Railways and stuff, and they look ace compared to modern arty efforts!

I have seen many Triumph ads and all of them are good. Making an advertisement is not an easy task. You can't take it lightly.

Well nice to see Triumph with a comanding lead but it
does remind me of the early 70s Norton always winning
most desireable motorcycle because thousands of
high school guys voted for it!
I doubt many "normal" people have any idea Triumph
exists...then or now!

Voting closed. However I would have voted for that Hush Puppies ad. Triumph one was cool, but my granddad worked for Wolverine (Hush puppies) for 30 years. Man, those ads take me back to my kid days...
