Hi guys. I discasembled my front forks just enough to change cloppons to a set of adjustable Tommaselli's. Other stuff to come soon. I'm to tired to remember the sequence of reasembling the fork tubes & don't want to (F) it up. ( (73 disc brake ). Am I correct in putting the wheel on, stoping weight on it to get the tubes centered & then tightening the pinch bolts. Then the top bolts??? I know this is elementery to most but I've been at work for 77 hours, no sleep & want to ride this weekend. Thanks.

Forks are tapered fit, so top nuts get tightened first, then pinch bolts.

1st - top nuts, 30-40 Ft lb
2nd - Steering head stem nut (if loosened) 25-30 Ft-lb
3rd - yoke pinch bolts 30 ft-lb

Spindle nut - 60 ft-lb
spindle pinch bolt 10-15 ft-lb

Tightening fasteners on front end should work from bottom to top, with suspension excercised in between stages.

Fork tops are tapered, they need to be seated before pinch bolts tightened, hence top bolts torqued FIRST, as described in the shop manual, Section G8

+1, Jim

Thanks gents. Finaly had enough sleep so I could comprehend the sequence. I remember someone a few years ago saying they had their fork tubes twisted in the yokes & I didn't want trouble. I replaced my streering head bearings a year or so ago so I didn't change them this time when I had the tubes out.
