I am replacing the stock WLA on my 1974 Commando with a Charge Warning Light from Improving Classic Motorcycles. Installation of the new unit looks to be pretty straight forward. My question relates to the removal of the old WLA. The White/Brown wire between the existing warning light bulb and the WLA will become surplus and will be abandoned. The existing Green/Yellow wire between the alternator and the WLA will also become surplus and will be abandoned as I am also installing a new 3-phase alternator and new reg/rec. My issue relates to the Red wires that connect to the existing WLA. My wiring diagram shows only one Red wire from the WLA to ground but there are actually two Red wires connected to the WLA on my bike. I was intending to simply terminate and insulate the Red wires that connect to the WLA but am not sure why there are two wires and if just terminating and insulating them will cause any other issue? Does anybody know why there are two red wires connected to the WLA instead of just one as per the wiring diagram?

The diagram is a schematic, where the wiring is often simplified for clarity.

The red 'ground' wiring often runs from one electrical component to the next so forms a 'chain' and that is why red wire terminals often have a double wire.

As long as you don't 'break the chain' by cutting and not rejoining the wires then there shouldn't be any problem, just tape the connector.

I've come across this site before and have corresponded with Mr. Tiller who has been very generous with his time and knowledge.
