I have a nice roeadster tank combo for my Mk 3 Interstate but someone Petsealed it years ago. I'm told this will not resist the high ethanol gas we now have in Canada and it must be removed.

What is the easiest way to get rid of old sealants like Petseal? Would I use an epoxy one afterwards?
All help appreciated!

Kind regards

Paint stripper worked for me, not sure what you guys have over there but anything that deals with lacquer paint (cellulose here) will work. Takes a while though and a good litre (1.5 pints) of the stuff. Some nuts and bolts help work it out as well. Some of mine came out in chunks where it had pooled at the back and had to be cut to get it past the filler! May need a couple of goes to do it.

If the Petseal is not damaged, then you simply need to mechanically abrade, scour with acetone, and apply novalac epoxy resin, ideally with some chopped GRP fibers added to increase durability and reduce chances of cracking. Its not correct to say all old sealers need to be removed, and in most cases this is simply a ploy to sell you some re-packaged paint stripper at 200% or more mark up. If you can find a supplier of industrial novalac epoxy in small amounts, then this is far superior to those sold as tank sealers, which are diluted with solvent to increase profits.
