I have used Dawn and a fine stainless brush. I have used Mothers aluminum cleaner with a fine stainless brush. I have used SC 1000 and a fine wire brush. All results are the same. See pic. The pic brings it out worse then in real life. I could blast with walnut shell but that would only be on removable parts. Any magic potions out there?

Not entirely sure but I think the stuff linked to above ^^^ contains Hydrofluoric Acid ....... really rather nasty stuff !!!!

Apart from the usual corrosive warnings be aware it can dissolve your bones upon exposure and passes through the skin easily.
Obviously the concentration cannot be too disastrous but the effects are cumulative.

Anyway, be careful out there ........................

It comes with the MSDS 📗and references the required PPE. 🧤😷🥽
The O.P. Has worked decades in heavy industry.
Should be ok.

A solution of chromic and phosphoric acid in water is used to remove aluminium oxide prior to anodising. I don't think it needs to be a very strong solution. It can also be used prior to welding aluminium to stop porosity forming in the weld. The oxide layer on aluminium often has gease locked in to it - strip and dry the parts, if you want to weld.
