Rear set options for atlas?

Hi Guys. What are some of the rearset options out there for atlases? I see that Clubman Racing has a set but would like to know what other options are available. thanks.
 
Hey John,
Do yourself a favor and get the Clubam rear sets. They work perfect, mount right up (after drilling a hole on each side in the frame gusset.
Every once in a while you'll see some original sets on ebay, but they're usually missing something.
The Clubman ones are proper, in my opinion. Been running a set on my Atlas for as long as it's been built.
 
You get what you pay for so don't buy a cheap set of rearsets, the quility of rearsets on the market aren't very good unless you spend a lot of money, I brought a set of Dunstall rearsets for my Commando back in the 80s, they lasted 6 months and had so much wear, they were flogged out and if I remember I payed a fair bit for them at the time.

On my Manxman caferacer project bike I am going to make my own rearsets, for the price of rearsets I think I can make a set better and stronger than the ones on the market.

So what pattern were you thinking of making your set to ?

Finding something suitable to pirate is most of the battle...
 
I going to patten my own ideas to my rearsets, I have access to a lathe and milling machine, 15 years working as a T/A to a fitter and turner I have learned a lot with any metal, I like the rearsets on my Thruxton so making something like them would be great but will see what I can come up with at the time.

Hi guys. I got my rear sets from Clubman. They look like they are very well made. I just wanted to ask here before I drill to install them that this is correct. Clubman says to drill a 3/8" hole approximately 1-1/4" below and 3/8" forward of the swing arm pivot.

Is this the right place to start drilling. I only want to do this once. :-)

That hole is so close to the original brake pivot hole, is it not possible to use it?

From what I've read you can do that but if you put the right one in the same spot as the existing brake pivot hole, it make the gear shifting less than ideal.
 
It looks pretty similar to the position of mine. I could measure and see if you want.

Those measurements, 1 - 1/4 and 3/8ths are very close to what mine are. 1 - 1/4 yes but a tad short of 3/8ths. The original hole below I had welded up during the dry build but the hole I have above I decided to leave as it is very close to the frame number and I didn't want to disturb it for obvious reasons.

I'd say it's just about 5/16ths not 3/8ths. Sorry, just had to do a check as my vernier was reading metric. 7.88mm
 
Hi John,
The Clubman instructions are correct, and match the original Norton instructions which state 1 1/4" below the swingarm pivot, and 3/8" forward.

In the Norton note on "fitting racing footrests-rear set" they state, " It is not correct to drill a hole on the offside to match the standard brake pedal mounting hole on the nearside."
 
I tell you what, if I had drilled moving the hole 3/8" forward I would have been unhappy. I only moved forward about 1/4" because any further the bushing/peg base would have stuck out past (Or slightly forward of) the gusset plate. As it sits now, it looks correct. It would have looked sloppy at 3/8"
