I have a, new, half installed, tri-spark electronic ignition system in my new to me, non-running, 74 850. don't know how old it is, but i'm guessing 6-7 years old. I have no idea exactly what I have - whether all the parts are there, installation, etc. there is also a boyer-brandsen system, that was supposed to have been working before the tri-spark, in my box full of parts - i'm assuming all the parts are there. also, I have seen an on-line video on a pazon system, so my question is, is there clearly a better system, something that stands out above the rest, or are they all about the same. is there any other systems worth looking at?

in addition, I have a couple 6V coil setups - the original lucas (although only one tests OK), a couple, new, 6V aftermarket coils, and two, new, dual output assemblies in the parts stash. the bike also have a podtronics, rectifier/regulator installed. not sure where i'm exactly at with the ignition system, and most likely will need to start from scratch. is there a preferred setup or system to use with a specific EI? i'd like to establish, a good, baseline ignition system.

thanks....

I'd start with a search on Tri Spark, Boyer and Podtronics as there are many threads that talk through these systems and have nuggets of golden information.

there is also a boyer-brandsen system,

Which type? Presumably, Micro-MkIII but could also be Micro-MkIV, Micro Digital or Micro-Power?

Best to decide which you'll go with and sort out your coil wiring that currently exists. Tri Spark requires wiring changes. I'm not fluent in Boyer as way to many complaints over the years about them. I'm happy enough with my Tri Spark, although Pazon might also be a choice, as I've not heard many complaints about them.

Pazon is reasonably priced and comes in various configurations/prices. I have the SureFire on mine and no complaints. I've heard of some of them not working, but are replaced. I think the factory support is good even from NZ and maybe even lifetime? I think I got mine from MAP in FL. Easy to set up, instructions are first rate. Easy choice over replacing/adjusting AAU. Almost a makeover in the ignition department.
