This storm is the real deal. They are reporting it as the 4th largest storm in recorded history and the larges, strongest typhoon/cyclone/hurricane to ever make landfall.

Images received in AUS are not good and a direct hit on Cebu was reported.
Cyclone YASSI in AUS a couple years back was devistating with a recorded atmospheric reading of 920 at its lowest. This bad boy was recorded in the 880's and lower i beleive.

As bad as a Typhoon gets

Hope all is well Don

my first chance to get to a computer, lost power , fone, internet etc 30 hrs ago and dont know when any of that will come back, using a remote computer in a friends bar 10 miles away,I survived ok, the 4 levels of my house got flooded , the wind was extremely strong like nothing I ever experienced and I was about 40 miles from the center, It just wiped out those places, havent had a chance to check reports but many have perished and thousands would of lost their houses, I'm lucky, some one just told me there is another coming and due in a week. fortunately I built a very strong house , with the 7.2 earthquake last month and now this , it goes to show how good my house is, obviously a reflection on the products I manufacture, hehe,
thanks for the concern guys,
Don

Good to hear buddy. Your products were never in question but am thinking I might get you to engineer my home when I move to an island near you!!

"it goes to show how good my house is"

Evidently!! They said it was Class 7 if such a designation existed! Installing all those hold downs, threaded rod and shear panels is a p.i.t.a, but evidently that shit works. Glad to hear ya made it.

Incredible powerful storm only luck plus some heavy duty construction and good location could survive. Hope supplies last though the coming tough times with another mean typhoon on the way. Pavement starts being sucked up in tornado's here after 200 mph wind level.

It's pretty phenomenal.
Haven't heard from don on this link for a few days. Perhaps we can help out in some way?
Don, I appreciate you are otherwise occupied but do you need anything that we could assist with? If a member has alternate ways of contacting don could they do so to see if they is anything we can do?
My friends in siargo were lucky and escaped with their lives.

I was at a meeting today of 2 local bike clubs who are organising aid in the way of food and money which will be taken to the devastated areas by boat by a couple of the members, If aid is given to local govt authorities to distribute a good percentage will be pilfered,
one of the clubs just TXT me saying a bike club in Australia just donated $2000.
Plenty of aid is coming from US, UK, OZ, Japan etc.
immediate problem is lack of drinking water and food but thats being addressed, looting is rife, people looking for food. disease is another concern, It will take a month or 2 to get some order
in the place but it will slowly happen.

Don,
Glad you are safe.I hope the aid gets to the people that need it soon.
Mike

so don, can we organise a collection and send it to you to help out?
maybe we could drop donations into your paypal??

thanks but I dont like to use the forum for what you suggest but of course the idea is much appreciated. There is much aid coming in from many governments and our own here of course,
Red Cross and other NGO's as well.

I don't want to burden you with a task, but from what I have read in the newspaper articles so far, it is better to send money to someone you trust than to give it to a governement agency. I will PM you for your PayPal address and send you something, you can use it for yourself or help your neighbors. I will also send something to the Canadian Red Cross since the Canadian governement has promised to match donations.

Here in Quebec, the worst disaster we ever had was the big ice storm in 1998, many people lost power for a long time, some fore a whole month when temperatures went down to -20C, not many lives were lost directly because of the storm and not so much property damage except a few busted pipes from the cold yet a small village in Africa heard about our woes and sent money they could have used for themselves.

Jean you are right, money is the best in this situation , not money directly to the survivors, they have no where to spend money, all shops etc are gone, my friends are planning to make food packs with the money and food donations to the value of around $10 each and we will be personally transporting by private boat to the survivors on the ground. this is the best we think we can do to help.
