Disaster Relief for the Philippines

I've received a message from Paypal, this is part of it "Nonprofits and organizations, individuals, or groups who want to accept donations on behalf of a charity or nonprofit typically receive tax-preferred treatment. To qualify, PayPal needs to make sure these people and groups meet certain regulatory requirements."
what they have told me is that if I dont provide a list of documents within the next few days proving that I am
a registered non profit organisation then they are going to suspend my Paypal account. Documents include
my registration with my government that I am a non profit organisation, Bank statements proving my organisation is not making a profit etc etc.
I have replied to Paypal stating my (our) situation but I have not heard back from them. I expect to lose my Paypal account and henceforth my Ebay account because Ebay accounts must be attached to a Paypal account.
So I have no option but to ask members here not to make any more donations.
I will forward the last of the donations on today and keep you posted on the aid we are giving.
I was very happy with our efforts and all the support from the members on AccessNorton in what we are achieving, only to be shot down by Paypal.

Man, I can not believe this!!!
You try and help people in the most terrible of situations and Corporate &@@$£#}]# waltz in and shut it down.
I truly hope you remedy the paypal situation.

I can understand the logic, there are lots of flimflammers out there so, unfortunately it makes it near impossible for a regular person to organize help. Good on you for doing this much Don.
It occurred to me today that Warren Buffet needs to get involved in Disaster relief. I like much of what he says, but on the giving front he is very weak. His has made a commitment to give much of his fortune to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, but that will only happen after Warren is gone and can no longer count his money.
His argument for hanging onto the complete fortune now is that the longer he has it, he the greater the fortune will ultimately be and thus it will have a bigger impact(if he ever dies :roll:
It might be hard to explain that logic to the people in the Phillipines who need help right now.
He could drop a billion dollars in there and it would have zero effect on his life, hardly put a dent in his wealth, but would help thecsituation there immensely.
Bill Gates has given away 31 Billion over the last few years, yet his fortune has risen from about 48 Billion to 71 billion.
Buffet has given away next to nothing and seen his fortune rise from about 44 billion to 60 billion during the same time period.
Giving money away seems to be working well for Bill Gates!

Bla bla bla, Buffet and Bill and the "what ifs"....... And fuckin Paypal.. Don, if donations are sent to your "account" that you provided to me, can you promise and ensure it gets to where its needed??.. Its pretty simple to me..
 
OlChris I guarantee you 100% that yours and every other donation is going where it should be, I just came from a meeting with my friends who are the ones who have been doing the buying and packing, we have enough food packs which consist of 2 x 1/2kg tins of fish, 2 liters of water, 2kg of rice etc, we are also working on supplying tarpaulins as the people have no shelter, we have enough aid for 4 ship (boat)loads, the first boat load is leaving on Monday, once we deliver the first boat load we will learn what the people need most other than food and we will include the items what ever they may be in our future deliveries, I am unable to personally go on the first shipment but the guys going will be taking pics for you to see
please understand that EVERY cent donated is used to buy aid and not used for labor, transportation etc, all these other costs are met by persons like my self , straight out of their own pockets, things are very grim there, my friend just got a text asking if he knew anyone with a dump truck to dispose of the bodies that are littered everywhere, they are making mass graves for 200 and 300 people.
This is really a tragedy, and we appreciate all those who helped even though they didnt have to.

Looks like Bill Gates is helping right now, while Buffet still plans only to help in the afterlife.

How did PayPal learn you were getting money to aid other people :?: I made my donation to you personaly and I guess others have done the same :?: :?: :?:

Don I think ole Chris is proposing to bypass paypal altogether and we continue our work via direct deposit.

Jean I was tempted to raise the issue myself but things must be terrible for the guys on the ground over there so it probably isn't helpful to think about how this has come about given there is but one logical conclusion to draw.
 
Paypal are probably watching closely for any signs of scams, given what goes on daily around the world.
They would have no idea what was genuine or not, so probably question everything.

Don probably needs to send them pics of bags of rice purchased and being delivered.
And ask how much Paypal has contributed to help those in need....

You KNOW we are vastly too overregulated when you need permission, and certificates, to help our fellow mankind in need !!

a great bunch of blokes Outsider MC and also the Peaceriders MC , both clubs spend a lot of time and money in their local communities, I'm not a member of either but I know them well and always support their cause.

Don, i have never doubted your honesty, i am proposing that donations go "straight to you" and you sort it quickly and efficiently.. If others want a "receipt/or whatever" or some sort of security as to where their donations go :roll: , then they probably need to go and give locally to get their "receipt". If their tax returns are that important....

I never doubted his honesty either, I gave hime something either for himself or his neighbors. If I was in his situation and needed a few dolars to help me in a terrible situation, I would have appreciated anything, I am just shocked that PayPal would look at what had been deposited in MY account, but come to think of it, they are greedy bastards just like all corporations and seeing that someone was getting funds without paying their "fair share" when the donor declares it is a gift rather than a purchase of goods, they flagged it.

Seeing how some people (read that as theives) try to beat the system by sending funds through PayPal, it is only natural they would flag any increase in fund transfers.

I hope you can sort it out with them, I would not like to be the cause of problems for you, I think you have plenty right now.
