Big quake in island just off Cebu where our resident commando maker of awesome stuff is.
Hopefully you are ok Don aka madas

Heard from him, he's OK - and headed for the pub !
Shaken but not stirred....

yep , my house was really shaking, its 4 level on the side of a mountain, sustained some cracks but not serious, things falling of shelves etc, pretty scary stuff, others werent so fortunate as me, still getting
aftershocks , lots of them. all my stock, bikes, workshop etc is on the lower levels, if the house goes I've lost the lot, insurance dont work here. they declared today a holiday, airport closed etc.

Stay safe!

Airport closed = alot of lonely girls for a day. When I landed with the wife I remember asking why there were 300 men (white, greying) on the flight ,no women. Response : "Sir we have 5 flights a day of 300 men." Couldn't help but notice all the pretty girls waiting excitedly with name-placards behind the chainlink fence. Earthquakes and typhoons and 95% Christianity = 8 or so babies per woman. Gentlest peoples I ever met ,Whatever should be the national anthem. Probably only one Norton there but Jeepneys real special.

Feel for you Don, we went through 18 mths of earthquakes here in chch NZ and never got used to it, stock up on water and food always

not really, I built my house out of concrete, its probably got about 100 tons of reinforcing bar in the concrete, I probably got one of the strongest houses here, if my house goes then I probably wont survive either. my house is shaking as I type now. I think I'll move the beer fridge out on to the road.

And now the regular typhoons. Grass shack blow downs. San Miguel acid beer not really worth putting into the fridge ,stick to the Spanish vinos. Cement and rebar for those with money.

Let it never be said Madass140 doesn't have his priorities in the right place.

I'd be worried about the floor all your machinery is standing on, it would be like your lathe is bolted to the deck of a ship, ie., check alignment every time you need to use it.
Set up the hammocks.
Peter

If you drink all the Beer , before you put the fridge out , you wont be to worried at all .

Hope the worst of its over , no good little kids getting done in in the rush . Might pay to see nothing can fall on anything flash for a while though .

I never started this topic and wouldnt have as its not Norton related but coz the OP did and the thread never got removed I dont feel to bad about commenting, So much for the earthquake here a few weeks ago, I think we got worse to come, a super typhoon arrives here tomorrow heading straight for me in Cebu Philippines, CNN reported its the biggest storm the planet has seen this year, at the moment its got 250kmh winds with 330 kmh gusts and getting stronger, big clouds are building now, this should be exciting. keep you posted as long as I got a connection.
Don

Good luck.
You are up on a hill, so the storm surge won't get you ?

These things come in 3's, so whats next ?!
We've had floods and fires....

Brace the yardarm 7 batten down the hatches .

Could put ply sheet over the windows / & hide in the bunker .
If you had a T34 you could go up the mountain top & make a movie of it .

Hope theres no bother .

Super Typhoon Haiyan 300 kmph. sustained winds. Grass shacks and palm trees will fly. Will keep track. Wow.

Saw that news update this evening; sounds REAL serious.

Hope everyone took appropriate precautions / evacuation plans.
