Hello , I would recommend that you verify your oil pressure first thing. Is the oil pressure light on always now no matter what the rpm is ? Once you verify what oil pressure you have , should be about 20psi at 1000rpm and 40 + at 3500rpm. The oil pressure release valve is in the oil pump and the oil pressure switch is just behind the cylinder barrel in the crankcase. You may have a faulty oil pressure switch .

Sounds like the oil pressures is low. We have seen the timing gaskets crack at the oil filter causing immediate low pressure. The oil pump can be disassembled and check the release valve for good spring pressure and smoothness when you press on it.

Thanks for finding this.
Hi tony I stripped the pump and a roll pin that secured one of the pump gears had split and jammed the pump snapping the drive pin on the shaft . No dealers near me have one i am trying to locate the gears I need will try to attach a pic for you

Stu Bodycote will be your best bet when he is back at work (due to a bereavement he is currently closed I think), or otherwise Ollie Thiel - info@thiel-motorsport.de

Maybe you should replace the entire oil pump ? Maybe one of the Norton dealers can order one for you.

Hi John , Is the dealer that said they can’t get an oil pump a Norton dealer ? What more can Norton do to say they don’t want you as a customer. ? They can’t even manage the parts department. I am slowly getting fed up.

Is the 961 pump a generic oil pump?
I can't believe that Norton would have contracted to a company to have a special external oil pump manufactured for the 961.
There must be other sources for these pumps. I never liked it, and always thought that an external oil pump on the 961 was bizarre.
It was probably turned to by Norton because there were generic pumps already available on the market, and incorporating it into the crankcase design, or redesign made production simpler.
