i came accross a british supplier of prepainted vintage tanks the other day and thought i saved the link to now find out i didn't. bo amount of googling has brought it up. they get 450 pounds for a prepainted interstate w/ the 2 pinstripes. this sound familiar to anyone? thanks, rick

Perhaps you are thinking of Burton Bike Bits? They have unpainted or painted steel Interstate tanks listed on their website:

http://www.burtonbikebits.net/Tanks.htm

I emailed them a while back about the tanks. They had some available at the time and said they are "foreign made". I ended up not going ahead with making a purchase at that time.

If you buy one I'd be interested in a full report!

"Foreign" = Pakistan

I've seen an unpainted Roadster and the comment was that it will take a little work to make perfect but likely less work that a used tank.

the tanks i saw were as close to perfect as you can get but of course a camera can hide a multitude of sins. i don't believe they were pakistani. maybe someone will put me on the right track. thanks, rick

Burton's web site states, "All Fibreglass and Alloy Tanks are manufactured in ENGLAND!" So, it must be the steel tanks that are made elsewhere.

doh! it was burton's! i couldn't open their catalog for some reason. the tank they show bare looks not like the pakistani tank. and for 712 u.s. you can get a painted interstate. i'm going to e mail them about origins and what their paint process includes. thanks again, rick

I do believe the Pakistani made ones have "Made in Pakistan" stamped in large letters underneath them. Hard to miss.

Looks like they show the Interstate tank with no insignia and the Roadster tank with. Rick, please let us know about that and whether they paint or decal the lettering and if they do clear over lettering or even clear at all.
