After previously trying out the Amal Premiers, I had some success but was not completely satisfied.
It turns out, the new ignition system I was using didn't work out. I put the tried and true SureFire back on so I needed to try the Amals just one more time to see if they will work in conjunction with a bike with the rest of the systems in good nick.
I had the carbs sync'ed, idling good and running as well as the "not right" ignition would allow. When I fired them up on the SureFire , the tickover was totally desirable, being steady and balanced right at 1000rpm. That was yesterday.
Today I had time for a shake down. The nice thing about cold start on the Amal ticklers is I don't have to reach down and shut down the enrichener. What can i say. Good power from bottom to top, no hesitation at any point when going to WOT. No adjustments were needed and they are on to stay.
The only thing I can think of changing is that the main jets may need to go to 230 or 240 from the 220 that are standard for the Combat. They were a little light on the chop.
My Tm40-6 is proprietary to me and will be a solid backup.
With the Premiers, Amal has made it possible to be proper and to achive the desired performance that, until recently, has been elusive. With so many having great success and the overwelming positive comments, I just couldn't give up on them.
They look great to boot.
