Pre MK3 ignition switch cover

Did the factory ever originally install an ignition switch cover having a flap? Or are they an aftermarket thing?

Original. But they flop about and fall off. Not really sure the purpose. With a key in, flap is held open and rest of the cover becomes an air/rain scoop at speed.

That switch cover (p/n 06-4892) was apparently introduced when the Mark 1A started production. This switch cover works with a rear switch cover (p/n 06-4891). They continued to be used on later Mark II/IIa's.

Yes I beleive it's original on the later bikes but it looks rough and would more likely keep water in than out. I just cut it off straight away.
 
Yes, introduced on the 850 Mk1A according to the Mk1A supplement but not according to AN which has a different original part number 06.4085 that makes no sense.
