I have something of a bitsa (a '75 Mk3 frame housing a '74 engine et al), and I'm looking for a new ignition switch.
The wiring on the bike is a mess, as a PO has rewired it using all black 14 AWG cable.
I'm looking to buy a new ignition switch to mount in the Mk3 console.
(Doing a search on "ignition switch" fails due to too many results.)
Would someone kindly advise a good choice of switch that will live neatly in the Mk3 console?
I don't want the Lucas 4 position switch, as I am going to have handlebar mounted switch clusters similar to my Trident:

Thanks!

my original switch broke, to get by, until I got the proper one I went to Napa and bought a inexpensive switch made for a lawn tractor, fit right in and it has a three positions on/off/on . It has worked so well without fail I never replaced it with a Lucas.

Other than the above, something of a jap scrapper might fit the bill. You need to figure out what wiring you have at the console and what you may need to bring up to or divert from the console if the wiring is that bad.

Thanks for the above replies.
I checked out Napa, but wrong country - sigh.
I'm not averse to using a Japanese switch, but I'd like to know what fits well and what doesn't.
I seem to remember someone posting that a H*nda CB750 switch fits, but I cannot find the post.
I will rewire the whole bike from scratch, just as I did with the Trident:

Surely RGM should be able to supply something?

I did check out RGM - they are currently my preferred supplier, as I love their stainless steel re-manufactured parts.
The obvious parts are 4 position Mk3 switch (066395) and boot (065723), but I don't want 4 position; 2 is favourite.
I could use 2 position switch 30608, but I'm not sure it fits in the Mk3 console.

I've found a suitable ignition switch that fits into a 3/4" or 19 mm hole.
Does anyone know the size of the key hole in the Mk3 console?

Forget the original question, and the replies.

All I have to say is...

What an amazing-looking Trident!

Thanks, grandpaul (I recognize your handle from the TriumphRat forum).

About forgetting the original question, and totally off topic, here are some more:

I like her very much, and I hope to resto-mod the Commando to the same level.

The early 2 position switch fits the same hole as the later 4 position. It should work fine.
