My rebuild is coming to the stage of electrics its a 74 mk2a with side mount oil tank standard air filter and toolbox in left side panel so I was wanting the most powerfull battery that will fit in the stand position. I have not got electric start yet but would like to fit one of alton types when have got bike back on road so if battery could cope with that it will save replacing it when I do fit electric start. I have been look at Motobat ones on ebay but am unsure if mk3 e.start will fit a mk2a with. I like the fact they are sealed glass mat type also I live in UK so wish to buy it in this country as import charges can cost as much as the item your buying.

The lithium batteries like the Shorai do not start well in cold weather. This can be a drawback. I recently bought an XR1200 with no kickstarter - only electric start - and these batteries need to "warm up" by hitting the starter button several times or turning the headlight on for several minutes before full starting power is available when it is cold out. Check out the various Harley forums for more info. To me this is unacceptable.

Fits in my '75 with no modification. Lots of cranking power for the e-start, but it is a bit heavy.

I fully agree. Makes me very nervous. Also no room for any tools. Crazy! New-fangled era - cellphones and credit cards when it breaks.
I like the huge reduction in weight with the Shorai and heck I don't ride in winter anyhow. (Except this year with the new bike - I picked it up Jan. 2 and put about 80 miles on so far - some in close to freezing temps. Has original 2009 battery so I have been reading up.)

Thanks for your answers i can't seem to find a seller of Shorai batteries here in the UK. Could anyone give me the part number of the type of battery they have so I can see what ebay can come up with as lots of ebay sellers don't give sizes of battery.as my bike is not a MK3 I think I am correct in saying the battery is physically smaller than the MK3 one so an so is the space in which it fits

I believe you should go with a battrery that will closely match your stator output in AH. You don't want you system to be constantly asking for charging and neither do you want to be constantly dumping the charge through the reg/rec to the zener or podtronics unit.david7212 said:
