Just took these out of my 750 motor, which is a pre-combat.
I was expecting flat-top, so just wondering if they're anything out of the ordinary.
They're AE, incidentally.
The cam has 's s s' stamped on the sadly rather corroded lobe, so I suspect a rather non-standard engine.

Thanks guys - looks like a result!

I wonder what Les Emery would be asking if he had a pair of them?

le would be telling you not to use them under any cicumstances,he would tell you that he used to machine the tops flat, but he wont tell you what he did with the resulting quarter inch hole that appeared after machineing

I could get to work on the dreadnought file to get those lumps off, but how do I move that hole?

I am running those powermax pistons on my bike (750), with a an Norris D cam and a combat head with good results. The high compression with a hot cam seems ok. I only run the most expensive fuel i can find

*EDIT*

I did however machine the piston ring lands to support a different size ring  - Ask me why -

I'm only 15 miles away from Blackpool airport, so avgas wouldn't be a problem (except for the legality  ). I wonder how your cam compares with the triple S?

Duration is 316 and lift is 438 for both intake and exhaust and 106deg of overlap.

Exhaust opens 83deg bbdc closes 53deg atdc
intake opens 53deg btdc and closes at 83deg abdc

Not sure what the SSS specs are

Fill the holes with JB Weld, wait for it to harden, file it smooth, finishing off with 1500 grade wet and dry, mark up the location for the new hole and mount it in your drill press..........jobs a "gud-un."
