sheesh... google drive folks, free 15GB of storage, and google aint going anywhere or getting bought out anytime soon...

I tried linking through with Google Drive and it didn't show up for forum members. Have you been able to make it work? If so, I'd prefer to use that as all my photos are automatically uploaded to Google Photo.

If you put ~original after the .jpg string in the Photobucket URL, the image miraculously appears.
My account is blocked, and all my pictures have the ransom demand.
However, this picture of my Commando appears correctly with the mod:

Photobucket is dead to me

Is there a way to edit original threads to add the ~original string?

Each photobucket URL would most likely have to be individually edited unless Jerry can find an alternative way, and it may only turn out to be a temporary fix, but it's something perhaps we can try, and thanks for finding it.

I might be able to write a script to just change urls form that domain to end in ~original. I dont know how you found the loop hole, but I can assure you they will find it and plug it if they really want to charge you. I will not be looking at it this weekend as going on the piss for my 56th birthday :)

copy the sharing link from google drive and paste it into this utility:

http://gdurl.com/

It finally happened to me too. Looks like they're history. Nothing simple any more.

It looks as though Photobucket has closed the ~original loop hole.
One forum that I frequent, Street Triple, has used the loop hole to download the pictures to local storage, and change the Photobucket links in threads to point to the new local storage.
As such, all the "How To" and build threads are back up and running with pictures - a great effort from the site admin guys there.

Jerry

If you can't write a string then how about you make it possible for us to edit old threads and either use the fix mentioned or allow us to restore the photos with another URL etc. As it is we can edit for a short time then we're locked out.

We had a major problem before due to editing of old threads. You guys (not you) were arguing about cr**p and then going in and changing old threads to prove points, it was ridiculous. I dont know about that. Let me see what Les thinks about it. We will confer lol

I can't see a problem lifting the 24 hour edit rule at least, temporarily, as it was only due to the actions of a couple of individuals deleting the text from their posts (so making the threads unreadable) which resulted in the rule being introduced.

Hi Les,

I agree. I have made it so users can edit any posts from the past. There is not time limit now.

Cheers all, back to my real job now :)

Photobucket have got around to me too. They sent me an email saying they'd noticed I'd been using third party hosting.

The crazy thing is, if they offered the service for maybe $50 per year I ( and thousands of others) would probably think it's worth it to save the hassle of changing hosts.

However, when you close your account, there's a little box where they want you to tell them why you're leaving. I think I'll tell it how it is :)

Thomas:

How did you get the large image to come in? Mine are the thumb nail size, but if you click on them, a decent size comes up.

Post image gives a selection on how to share, click on share and select 'Direct Link' to be copied, then paste that into this sites image identifiers
Photobucket is dead to me
and it will show full image. Pity the rotate image is not working as my phone has odd ideas of what is up and what is down ;)

Or, just select the 'Hotlink for forums' option, then it doesn't need the 'img' tags.

Please, always check in 'Preview' before posting ['Submit'].
If images do not show correctly in 'Preview' then something is wrong so don't post.

seems to work for me

That's Photobucket. Photobucket still seems be working for me but it may only be a matter of time before more of our photos are replaced with the 'Please update your account' P/500 image.
