Finally kicked Photobucket to the curb

wow, haven't gone there yet but sounds like u can't even get access to your account or the pix without paying up ..ffs,

the workaround for that sounds like something that requires skills that few would have

Yes...welcome to the "Terms of Service" agreement folks sign on for when they register on those photo sharing sites....basically you give up your exclusive ownership of the images....the site can re-use them as they see fit. You're basically giving up your copyright as the creator of the photos.

Strange, I'm seeing all images in both of those linked threads. What browser are you using? Win/Mac? I'm on Chrome, Win 10.

It is possible the original images that are not showing have actually been moved/deleted from the photobucket site by the image owner. That's always a risk when they are hosted at a separate site and why it's best to host them from the actual forum site...hence the advantage of being VIP on AccessNorton. You can then upload the image to this site and hopefully they will live on forever with the thread.

I’ve only just started using forums again and a relatively new member to this forum. Was wondering why when looking at a lot of old threads why I couldn’t see any of the pics. Is there any way to be able to see these pics from an iPhone which I use most of the time

The issue originates with the PhotoBucket change in policy such that they are now blocking image sharing to other sites. The work around is to use a browser patch that defeats PB's blocking. As far as I know, the patches linked earlier in this thread only work on Chrome and a few other browsers and only on PC or Mac OS's...have not heard of any solution for cell phone/tablet browsers.

I just got an email from Photobucket that will now allow free hosting... but they will add a descrete watermark.

Needless to say this will not bring me back to them. In fact, &#@$ them still. Right in the exhaust pipe.

But at least you might be able to see some of the 5000 photos they are hosting and I posted here.

What other sites are people using for image hosting ?

I use a paid site called Zenfolio. I THINK it's about XX.00 annually. BUT I'm not certain of that, as I'm on auto-renew.

EDIT: my "Unlimited" plan costs 60.00 a year. There may be less expensive plans, see link below to plans page.

I can upload RAW files, videos, whatever. Zenfolio is a real nice host site where you can have your own domain name & URL, write and post blog entries, and they have lots of stuff for professionals as well as regular folks like "us". Easy to share, easily copy links to various size files, share slideshows and entire galleries. I like em, I've been using them for at least 3 years on, and the (minor to me) cost seems well worth it for never having to worry or fuss with anything- just upload and share images or videos.

I went to Phot*bucket early on and downloaded a bunch of my images and albums, but didn't get a lot of my stuff offa there. Went back later and they had me locked out of my own account. I just said F it and moved on.

Here's my home page on Zenfolio:

https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com

and here's their "plans" page:

https://en.zenfolio.com/zen-plans

As a member, I can offer a discount code, probably one use per code, I'd guess. PM me if you feel inclined to sign up and I'll send you the code privately. This goes for any and all.
Meanwhile, I sincerely hope Phot*bucket goes down in flames and burns in H E L L.

I think someone at Photobucket finally figured out that by taking away key feature just pisses off your potential customers.

I think you’re right there.

Trouble is, they now have zero trustworthiness. How do we know they would do exactly the same again in a few years ?

What is the advantage to using any hosting site as opposed to having sufficient storage space on your own system? I have, over the years since the internet started and became what it is today, lost pics, documents (one of over 200 pages), and various other files on hosting sites in the cloud. I don't do it anymore, I store all my stuff on MY equipment. Storage is cheap and I don't see any use - for me, at least - in using the cloud/various storage sites to keep data. Frankly, the old "keep the pictures in a shoebox" is more secure long-term than putting idata that becomes "a picture when properly opened" on some third party equipment/application... ;)

Heck, I've got a bunch of apps that I used to use that now don't work with the latest OS... :( I've gotten where I tend NOT to "upgrade" to the latest system for that reason - half the stuff quits working!

No fix for Botofuckit, but if you've got pics on google drive, then you can simply set them as shareable, link them using gdurl and paste the resultant link into your post as a pic. Doesn't help the pics already lost, but it is a simple and robust method. (Think I even first saw this tip on this forum!)

Am I correct if we go the PIV route you can post directly from your device without having to use a image hosting provider?

It's not for storing all of your images, just the ones you want to share (or in my case, overshare) to a multitude of forums.

Local storage with cloud backup is never a bad idea. If you think the local files you have are safe you are very mistaken. Hard drives fail all of the time.

same here with backup on two Windows PC,s CD,s and ipad. All sorted in various folders so easy to access.
My most used PC for basic Picasa/Photoshop photo editing, captioning and sorting is an ancient, but reliable and easy to use Windows 2000 homebuilt.

I have NEVER lost a file on a hard drive/SSD. As I said, I HAVE lost a lot of files on the cloud. As the old saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me! ;) If you are comfortable with some company holding your files, fine. My experience is that I cannot trust what was accessible IN THE CLOUD today to be accessible tomorrow.
