I've taken one off! In August 1975, when they ceased to be a legal requirement in the UK-as did most other riders because we were glad to see the back of them!

We must have different perceptions of c**l (sorry, but I even have trouble typing the complete word in that context without feeling a little nauseous!).
I, and I expect the majority of other UK riders would not consider a tax disc and its holder to be "c**l" in any way, shape or form, and would be more than happy to be rid of the f***ing things! :)

LAB. Down here, rid of them we are. Yep the state government, in their wisdom, decided a few years ago to stop issuing rego stickers and disks for all cars and motorcycles. They thought they would save a few bob by not having to send out all those annoying rego labels in the mail. They reckon they don't need them and can check number plates by computer recognition for unpaid fines. paid vehicle license etc. So I pulled off my discs a couple of years ago and haven't looked back.
Front number plates went out years ago. Before I started riding.

It's all computerised in the UK too, as they can tell from the registration number if the vehicle is taxed, insured and MoT'd yet we still have to show the tax disc or risk a fine for "Failure to display"!

The stupidity of the laws in The UK are that even if the vehicle is tax exempt you still have to apply for and display a tax disc. It would be interesting to know how much the whole tax disc scenario cost to administer in this age of computor records at the touch of a button.

We used to have county stickers for vehicles here in Virginia. Somehow they discovered it one didn't pay their personal property taxes (including autos and M/C) somehow they knew if you bought a sticker (essentially paid your taxes) or not. They stopped sending them out, it took them many years to figure that one out, but there's still the county charge. DUH.

We do have state inspection stickers yearly though.

A June 1965 disc on a disc-braked motorcycle ? That'd get you your collar felt in the UK ! Even the dullest wooden-top would spot that one.

Those wretched screw-rim holders always leak, even the fancy ones with double gaskets. An annual tax disc is always a soggy mess by the end if you're a year-round rider.

Here in California there's no inspection stickers, special taxes or noting for my 74.
Just $53 a year.
