Hi all, Im restoring my 74 commando & having new pea shooters made but not sure which looks the best & am a bit of a stickler for originality but should the welds on the muffler be raised or ground down smooth ..I think they look nicer smooth but would like a few other opinions..thanks .Bill

If you have a 84 commando with peashooters originality is not the point : last Commandos were built in 76 with the black cap silencers.

I made mine in brushed stainless , but because my bike is lower and shorter than std , plus 18" wheels , I scaled them down 10% .
I tought , apart from wheight considerations , full size peashooters would look too big :

I also soft soldered the counter cone so that I can take them apart for repacking :

pea shooters

(This pic was taken before removing half of the damping stuff to create more expansion volume ..)

But the fact that the perforated tube isn't welded at both ends , puts more stress on the front of the damper , which sometimes cracks..
I would not recommend this for std rubber mounted mufflers .

Dude! You amaze me! Did you mine your own ore as well?

I feel like child with play dough compared to the metal and mechanical skill real Nortoneers display. The earliest reverse cones had a twittering over run sound.
Someone compared all the varieties of baffle tube cut outs and louvers. The early ones had 3 rows of slightly curved cut louvers with little metal between them. Most have 3 rows of straight cut punched louvers. All faced louvers slopped to rear.
I can' not yet find the photo's of the internals, may be lost with last 3 yrs files on 'puter crash, but may be able to find fella to re-post his findings for unique signature sound. Obo and Saxophone both similar reed instruments but their shape and materials sure makes a difference.

Sweated apart peashooter is great idea for those competent enough to do it nice.
I love it when folks line up behind Cdo's to get their clothes and hair puff balled.

For those who need custom size etc I understand it but I just have to ask you Ray bear, why are you having a set made? Are you not happy with the ones available? I my self am getting ready to order a stainless set from Epco as recomended from a earlier post on mine that keep cracking. Who is making them for you & at what price if you don't mind me asking. Stainless or stock type chrome? I like Stainless & if it cracks they can be welded & buffed. No need to re chrome
