In connection with my other thread on my mysterious Boyer problem, if I convince myself that it's a dead Boyer, then I'm thinking on using a Pazon Surefire. The price is good and the newer, more expensive Altair does not seem to offer much advantage - or what? Has anybody changed from the Surefire to the
Altair? Their website mentions "idle stabilisation" as one of the improvements, but I'm not that keen on a dead slow idle anyway.

The stabilization advances at very low rpm to bring back a near stalling engine. If it saves one almost getting rear ended by a distracted driver when it coughs upon tip in event, I would consider it worthwhile.

I have two Altairs. The only thing Id like on them is some sort of cancel so you can more easily
tune the idle.

I suspect their "idle stabilisation" was in response to Trispark including that in their ignition.
The earlier Altairs could be tricky to set up (mine proved very sensitive to rotor alignment) but they have revised the rotor detail on the model now available on their website, presumably to get over that. Mine works well now that we have it set up.
A friend has had a Surefire for some time and has no complaints.

Can't complain about my Surefire. I looked at the Altair, but for the price???

I have the Altair in the Norton and the Surefire in the Dutch Army bike. No trouble with either. I believe Pazon has already addressed the rotor clearance issues on the Altair with a new rotor but I still have the old version in mine. The carb adjustment interaction with the idle stabilization feature in the Altair was not really any problem. I made sure they were mechanically synced and adjusted normally (twin Amals) . I use a Harmonizer digital sync tool but that is overkill and not really needed. It idles like a clock and no need to keep your hand on the throttle at stoplights.

To me the higher price of the Altair was worth it. It was $250 shipped from NZ at the time. Now it is even cheaper - presently $199 USD with free shipping. I like Pazon - great support.

Hi Russ,
Do you notice any difference in performance due to the Altair over the Surefire? If not, what makes you prefer the Altair?
Cheers,
Steve.
