Tank is at the sprayer at the moment, I'll be fitting the cap when it's complete. I'm expecting to have to do some fettling to get a good seal, but I'll report when I get that done. Thanks for Kerosene suggestion. I already done a "test fill" with a couple of litres of meths, before it went to the sprayer.

Tank back from the sprayer (at last!). He wasn't quick, certainly did a nice job. He used a couple of coats of filler which has taken out any grinder marks on the tank. It's Black, nowt fancy! :)

I've posted a few pics to try and show the tank shape on the bike.

I've fitted the tank on the bike with no problems, not bolted down yet, I've other stuff to finish as you can see, so if anyone wants any closer pictures of particular interest, for example fork stanchion clearance, I'll do my best to get pics/measurements.

So, I'm pretty pleased with the shape, fitment could not have been easier, and no tank leaks needed repaired.

Oh, and btw, I like my "non standard" silver decals.

As far as negatives go:

1. the LH fuel tap threaded insert is not square, so the tap "leans" forward a bit. It's not bad, and if no one points it out you'd not notice.

2. I also bought an Indian fuel cap from the same place. The combination of cap/tank is not completely fuel tight. I dunno if this is the cap, the tank, or both. Some forum threads indicate problems even with factory stuff. I'll have a closer look at the issue and engineer a solution. The factory design is not exactly engineered imo.

No offence, but your pics show the tank in shadow = can't see the shape/lines of the tank.
Looks nice and shiny though.

We predict that tape over the muffler outlets will cause difficult idling ?!

Are your silencers blocked so the stink bugs don't go in there? That's why I block mine. It's about time for them to show up, the nights are cooling off a bit.

Tank looks good.

That tank does look surprisingly good! Nice - congrats. Most painters aren't known for quickness. I had one guy take almost 2 years! Then once it was finally done he demanded immediate payment (twice the estimate) or he would take me to court! I was out of town at the time and he threatened my wife. It was downhill after that. I had one of my screaming fits which doesn't happen very often. It takes a lot to set me off.

Now the local place that I found is great - they like Nortons and it's done in 1-2 weeks.

No offence taken, I know what you mean, I'm no professional photographer :P

Getting a decent pic with the tank being so shiny is tricky, as there is always a reflection. I do have some with the bike in the sun, but they were no better. I can try under some artificial lighting in the garage?

Tapes not to keep the stink bugs out DogT, they were taped up to stop the soot falling out of them when they were being stored in the house after polishing, so really to keep my wife off my back :) I don't like the sound of Stink bugs, the name suggests they aren't going to be nice.

I got the same email.
Still happy with the tank I got so will see if they source a Fastback tank for me.
They probably got sick of the rip fees and other taxing eBay applies.

Now which tanks did you guys, rwalker and Time Warp, get from Anil? I almost got a steel roadster type with no seams which he said he would make for me. In other words a fiberglass style but in steel.

Dave

Anil is Classic Tinware not Partsparadise, Partparadise do Roadster and Interstate tanks off tooling which gives better consistency and none of the boxy look others seem to have, Anil looks to be using dollies but doing a better job than others using dollies.
