Clearly this is all ZDF's fault. If he would only make some proper
steel Interstate tanks, these patterns POS would dry up.

....just kidding! :-) Looking forward to the day that you do come round.
and make up a goodly batch.

Last word was that they were working on it.

If ifs and buts were candy we would all have a merry Christmas .
With over 37 years in heavy engineering I am aware of the costs of press tools (in the western world) but tomorrow is always that.
If they make a steel 1971 Fastback tank I will buy one.

Positive feedback received from partsparadise51 less than 12 hours after I payed for the Interstate fuel tank.
That in in itself is a rare occurrence these days, most sellers will not leave feedback until the buyer has done so first.
So far so good.

Word from home is the 'Interstate fuel tank arrived today from India.

A friend bought an Indian tank made to order for his 1957 Norton 99. It is a chromed tank and came painted as they were done at the factory in 1957, decals and all. It looks very nice, some very small imperfections, not much tho. Total cost at his door was about $600, not much more than the price of the paint job.
Another friend bought an alloy tank from the same vendor, similar price, very nice as well. Not quite Evan Wilcox nice, but not that far off. The best thing is the very neatly fabricated aluminium trunk that they come in. It looks like it alone is worth a thousand bucks. Neither friend has put fuel in the tanks yet, but they look much better than I expected.

Interstate fuel tank from partsparadise51

I rode in India last August and would have liked to have checked out some of these manufacturers while in New Delhi but never thought of it at the time.

I added some pictures here.

It was well packed and have to say first impressions are for $219.50 plus $73.17 post it is very nice.
The fittings look to be brazed, the lines look to be uniform but do not have a OEM Interstate tank to do a comparison.
The inside looks good with the threaded inserts being blind,I can not feel a part line at the right hand upper top to side transition so a pressing it is.
Welding looks OK,'oxy/acetylene perhaps and should not be a concern with rust on the inside.
All in all I would say a bargain at this stage,if I get time tomorrow I will see how it fits on both the Mk2A and Fastback.

A fella in Colorado has the dies and is tooling up for Roadster tanks. I did not wait and bought one from India thru a large dealer in the US. My perception is they are all left over quality rejects. The better lot go to dealers, and the real garbage goes to ebay. You can spend less on ebay and take a chance. As mine was ($675) the dealer said he would pressure test it, it came with a hole brazed right in the side and a seam brazed about 4 inches long! Failed his test. It also was full of rust inside, and the bottom had been primered and was pealing rust. I immediatly phoned the dealer and was told it was better then most he sold! I have spent a fortune having this tank cleaned up, and I coated it with Caswell as I figure it is not a question of if, but how soon it would rust again as well as how many more holes are about to appear. This has been the only bad experiance in restoreing my Commando, and it has been a real doozy! The base coat is on now , with a coat of clear and as soon as it sets I will be taking it to another shop for pin striping. This "major dealer" also lost my buisness to another big supplier in the US, too bad for him as he lost a few thousand dollars of my business!
