Does anyone have a photo showing the correct battery hold down and terminal orientation. Negative is supposed to be on the right side, correct?

The hold down strap should be like this:

but it needs the clips or pins on the ends and will attach to your battery box floor plate hooks. Check "Post Photos of your Norton P11" in this p11 section and check out P400's build. 2nd picture down I think the terminals are facing inboard. I haven't got that far on my build yet. If others respond then I will even learn something to your good question
Cheers,
Thomas

Thanks Thomas. Looks like Positive on Left, Negative on Right. Fuse holder lead is positive. If I am wrong, someone will correct me.

In the words of Anthony Curzon...

"The PUZ5A has a feature that owners of the P11 series should be aware of: the battery posts are screwed into the top of the battery. This is very important to P11 owners as the author experienced one day when crossing Clapham Common in South London. The later Japanese batteries have their posts on their sides, so the battery connections subjected to vibration, can earth onto the battery cover, and the engine would cut out, intermittently. The cure is to always face the batteries side terminals away from the cover, or towards the oil tank, and this annoying occurrence cannot happen. Also, if you can obtain an original Lucas PUZ5A, then this would not have happened in the first place."

According to Anthony Curzon, "There are also two small pieces of rubber that were placed in front and behind the battery on the tray to hold it in place on the battery tray." Perhaps those are what he refers to?
