Well it's 4 days into our Winter and what great riding weather we are experancing at the moment with 26c day time temps and night temp around 15c and some clear blue sky days, we even got a thunderstorm yesturday afternoon, which is unusal for this time of year, I just finished doing a few small repairs to my Norton and will be taking it out for some nice cool riding, man I love our winters here in Queensland, we get to ride all year round.

Ashley, that is NOT a winter ... !

Winter, that's not a winter, this is a winter. Month after month of near 0 degree F weather, snow storms every other day of 2 to 3 inches. It was a long brutal one this year. It's 80 F and sunny right now, all is good, for now.

We have a name in England for the periods of time where it is 26c in the day and 15c at night... Summer...

Sorry guys I just like to rub it in, we get very hot summers here and sometimes to hot to ride comfortable, the lowest it will get here in Queensland will be about 6c at night and our coolest days about 15c, I have never seen or experance snow and would hurt me to not be able to ride my bikes through winter because of snow and ice, I do feel for you guys that have to suffer very cold winters.

Today was our first 100 F. { 38 C.} today. Its' looking like it may be a scorcher. Jim

Jim thats when you need ice packs inside your leather jacket and a good oil cooler for your motor.

Bagram Air Field or BAF as we call it, has been in the 80's (F) and at 4800 ft. has been nice (except for the occasional sand storm). Sadly I've no bike to ride here, so I'll have to keep on reading these threads for a couple more months before I leave.

I feel for you CJ, keep safe and don't eat to much sand.

Aw man Ashely all year 'round riding climate on top the rest of your bragging rights, cool. Ozarks gets couple mo's in spring like now, and a couple in fall but otherwise its either too cold to enjoy or hot as hair dryer blowing. Can also break our seasons up in the types of bug loads encountered plus the sun goes down too soon and temps drop fast in our semi Mt's elevations. So Peel's got to be all weather year round comfy or may never get much pay back like you.

That's the way it is in Oz. In Perth winter riding is great. We can get nice clear days for a week or more at a time. The pick of the year though is probably Autumn, you guys call it fall, the heat eases, the wind drops off, not much rain, but just beautiful for riding. It can stay like this through winter, just a bit cooler. 16C would be a cold winters day. Summer mostly too hot to be comfortable.

You know, I've never heard an Aussie going on about the hot weather in Australia before. The winters make me appreciate the other seasons much more, especially spring. We don't suffer in winter - we just get on with it. Obviously shandy drinking southern softies are'nt limited to only the south of England.

The Norton does like the cold though
Just got back from an inland tour at high altitude and the colder it got the better it liked it
As if it found another gear

Good point - cold, damp air gives mores horse power as it's got more oxygen which requires more fuel therefore more BHP. Hot weather's bad for performance. :D

I would love to have to live in your weather; it would cure my arthritic joints somewhat :!:
The winters in the UK are variable, depending on what nature wants to do.
Not once but twice have I experienced hypothermia whilst riding in cold weather below 0 degrees, I just have to learn to live with it or give up bikes completely during the cold months :(

The Brit winters aren't the problem, it's the salt the councils put on the roads that takes it's toll.

No shit - hypothermia at zero degrees? With wind chill on top of that an extra pair of socks and a scarf might be useful. Electrically heated clothing works really well in winter. Another plus point re cold (or wet) weather in addition to the bhp boost is that it keeps the posers off the road.

I have to say it's been one of the best springs we've had here in the Mid-Atlantic area. Beginning in June the honey suckle starts to bloom (unfortunately an invasive from Japan) and the air is full of sweet smelling nectar. It lasts about a week and then it's gone and the heat and humidity also comes. So there's about a week 'sweet spot' we have and unfortunately I've lost about 3 days of it, but tomorrow I plan to get out in it. Fortunately it's easy to get in the Miata when driving to town and go out in these evenings and smell the air.

That said, I remember the eucalyptus smells in central/northern Calif when I was there in the 60's. It would go on nearly all the summer. I wonder if you mates in OZ have the smell of the Gum trees all season? I always liked that smell of the Eucs. It's one of my favorites. I even manage to grow a few here, they get about 30' high after a few years, but the last winter was so brutal it killed them all, I'll have to start a few more.
