In looking at spindle / pivots, I have found them in plated (I assume chrome) and stainless steel.
What are the thoughts of one verses the other as far as wear?
Once upon a time in the mid '80's I had an off the shelf steel pivot that I had hard chrome plated and electropolished to the correct diameter.
It worked great, unfortumately I don't have the resources I once had, so for time and convenience I'm sticking with available off the shelf parts from our common vendors.
There is the common Andover-Norton part that most vendors carry and there is a solid Stainless Steel that a couple of others sell.
just for some backup info, '74 850 Mk2a ( with the welsh plugs and "permanent" lubrication) The pivot removed had a bit of scoring and some corrosion. It was within dimensional tolerances and under 10k miles.
