I need to replace the screen on my Norvil fairing, they cost GBP39 but Norvil have quoted a further GBP80 for freight to Australia! Does anyone know where or how I could get one here without this ridiculous freight expense for something that weighs a few hundred grams. The problem is apparently the size.

Windshields are expensive. and shipping is expensive too. Grandpaul shipped me a fairing from texas to seattle and it was over $70. US currency. Beyond that you'll be surprised at how thin most replacement windshields are too. I have a late model dunstall fairing with the gustafson replacement windshield on it. It's about 1/16th thin polycarbonate. I called gustafsons and asked if they would make a thicker shield and they don't because it's hard to thermoform the thicker material reliably.

For now, I am using the the windshield I have which is thin and has a crack in it, but I'm planning on making a form to bend the polycarbonate myself or bring the form to a local plastic thermoform guy who has a lot of experience bending plastic and a big commercial oven to heat the sheet material to vacuform it into shape.

Possibly you could find a local plastic fabricator and get a decent windshield made for a reasonable price. If I was you, I would inquire about the thickness of the windshield if you bite the bullet and order it from overseas...

To be honest, because my windshield has so much curve to it and is bolted to the fairing, surprisingly it doesn't rattle or deform at all at speed, but the first pebble that hits it is probably going to blow it apart IMO...

Are you sure that the postage price quoted is accurate. ?

I've seen a single bolt quoted at $106 for postage alone !
So unless the parcel was quoted at an accurate size, it might just be a random number.

Having said that, I have paid through the nose for a tank that was in the biggest box they could find (?),
so I mostly paid for some expensive air.

There is also often a 'premium' service - where you wanted it delivered yesterday.
Which you also pay for...

I used to make fibreglass fairings and other parts here in Australia and AJ Plastics supplied me with stock but they sold the business more than a few years and the new owners never made them as well as Adolf did.
Not sure where you are in OZ but I have used Handcraft Fibreglass in Seven Hills here in Sydney recently for a new screen for our Guzzi race bike. Can't remember the cost.We wanted it 50mm shorter which they did no problem.
I f they don't have a template send the old one and they can copy it,no big deal.

I have a bikini screen by Eagle Screens in Perth . If for a Mk3 you will have to modify the brackets they supply as they are generic .

Your bikini screen looks nothing more than a flyswatter and about as useful as a cholate teapot :!:
Sorry to be so rude but these bikini type screen are only there for artistic looks in my book –so each to their own :(

Thanks Brett (Rosey?). I went to the fibreglass place at Seven Hills this morning and they are making one for $125. Will be ready in a couple of days.

Not sure about that, I have a similar one fitted to my t160 and does take some strain off of you , I'm not a lover of fairings or screens but with an old neck injury I really don't have much choice

Edward
That worked out then, good one much better to have it made here and no hassles on shipping as it may have been damaged in transit.
Plus you don't need to give any money to the bearded thief at Norvil.
As you are in Sydney you should come along to at Norton owners club event

After a long time riding M/c I decided that nobody made a fairing that did exactly what I wanted it to do, so I decided to make my own using the best information I had at the time.
I used a BMW R100RS frame mounted fairing as basics,As this had been done in a wind tunnel in Italy . I made a top mould from this fairing and used a non standard screen with a flip-up at the top (from Skidmarx) and fixed it via my fork yolks. The result was that the fairing wasn’t wide enough to cover the end of the h/bars, so I widened it (roughly) the fairing does what I wanted it to do, I was able to ride at 90mph all day with the helmet visor up, without the wind getting into my eyes making them water, the headlight goes round with the h/bars. The downside is that I have to half lower the visor when it rains or find myself following a skip HGV that is churning half its skip load of dust over the highway and it reflects a fair amount of engine noise. Strong cross winds hardly affect it as it is not a full fairing with slab sides.
