After realizing the challenge of designing a front fixing bracket for the Production Racer fairing I purchased from ItalianIron, I’m planning to order one from either Andover or Norvil.

Interestingly, they both list the same part number (63938) but the website pics show very different designs. After reading Swooshdave’s adventures with the Norvil bracket (instrument/fork interference, severely restricted steering lock, need for adapter) I’m inclined to spend the extra money for the Andover unit.

Can anyone here share their experience with the Andover bracket? I understand that adjustment/mods may still be required, but hoping to get a little better design/fit.

Thanks!

Marc

Bump, and more to the point:

Has anyone here actually purchased and used Andover Norton part 06.3938 front fairing fixing bracket with a Production Racer fairing?

If so, how well did it work in correctly locating the fairing and avoiding interference with steering lock?

Thanks,
Marc

i build a bike recently with a production fairing from fair spares ,and his fixing bracket
to cut a long story short ;useless bracket
i then bought one at a jumble , this could only be used without clocks,so i ended up modifying one
i will take a pic this weekend and post it, as the bike is no longer at my place
i do not think you can buy one to be used with clocks and have a decent steering lock or height of the clipons

This is a Mick Hemmings fairing bracket - judge for yourself if it's the same as the Andover Norton one. It's certainly the same design.

And this is the Hemmings bracket (L) next to the Norvil one (R) lined up on the headlamp mounting holes.

I've got a Norvil one going cheap if anyone wants one... 😂

Gentlemen, thank you for the information and pics. It certainly appears that the Mick Hemmings/Andover catalog bracket is the design I’d like to have, because of the tidier headlight mounting design and the longer length.

SwooshDave described having to install a spacer with the Norvil bracket to avoid the upper yoke from hitting the instruments, and the Mighty Garage video shows cushions installed to protect the two headlight tubes from the stanchions. That suggests the forks hit the brackets before the lower yoke steering stops contact the frame tab…that must limit travel.

I’ve been in contact with Ashley at Andover, and it appears they only carry the Norvil design now, due to demand for originality at race scrutineering.

Since the sad passing of Mr. Hemmings, where might one find the angle tube style bracket?

Failing that, did you have a price in mind for that Norvil piece, B?

Best,
Marc

I have an original factory front headlamp bracket (as shown on A-N's website) Pt. no 06-3938. It is used with what is sold as the F750 fairing Pt no. 06-3714*. The F750 fairing (and it's associated bracket) was designed strictly for racing with no headlamp, etc. I am aware that my setup is mixing designs but I've never had any issues. I know that this is "original factory" because it was installed on my 850 PR when it was built at the Wolverhampton factory in 1973.
My fairing bracket is made to hold the headlamp in a fixed position -- I've never had any issue with this when I've run on the street in usual conditions. Naturally, with clip-ons, the headlamp mounting ears and their associated tubes are removed. I have been running a 3 1/2 gallon factory PR tank - there are no issues with fork tube/yoke clearance at any point on the front end. I've never run any instruments but a rev-counter but this has also worked properly and caused no problems.

(* The factory team ran the full fairing on some of the Production Racers - this photo is from the '73 TT Production Race: I like the look of the "half-fairing" but for the streamlining qualities and historic value, I chose the full fairing.)
