My '72 Combats fairing gets a serious case of the head shakes at highway speed (up-down) so bad the headlight looks like its strobing. I balanced and trued the front wheel as best I can, and I noticed the fairing was doing this even when the bike was being trailed. I think its an aerodynamic issue, and the bespoke fairing bracket which supports the headlight as well, isn't up to the job. I can hold the fairing stead while riding but it's not really convenient.

complicating the issue is the clocks are mounted to the upper triple clamps and all my wiring and cabled run through the area where I would want to add a brace.

I've seen photos of Ducatis, and some older racing bikes that have a screen brace which mounts through the steering stem and has two rods which come out and attach the the fairing wings above the clip-ons.

Does anyone know where I can purchase one of these screen stays? they're part of the Ducati kit but it's almost $700 for that kit. is there any racing suppliers that sell these? Air-Tech doesn't offer them either.

I'm open to other suggestions as well.
Thanks,
Rich

Most of the fairings I've seen on Nortons have the gauges mounted on a panel which is part of the fairing. On yours this has been cut out so there is no side support anymore. Can you make some aluminum braces out of flat stock to go from your center bracket out and along the sides, just below the windscreen? It would need a twist.

This is a old and modified 'Ron's Cycle' half fairing front mount.
You can see the silver bolt that represents a longer bolt that would pass up thru the steering head (remove that stock rubber plug) to take some of the fairing weight.
The tension on this long bolt could act like a steering damper so be careful.

How is your steering turn radius?

Both good ideas, thanks guys.

Believe it or not the turning radius is full lock to lock, although my fingers are squeezed by the fairing lowers at full lock either way.

Those are Dunstall fairings. The PR doesn't have the gauges in the fairing.

I would say the way the extra gauges are mount may be causing the vibration.

Hi Rich,

We do these all the time for customer bikes with fairings.

Works perfectly, even in top gear on the 41 degree banking at Daytona.

Kenny that top one is exactly what I'm looking for. Do you offer those in kit form or is each one custom made?
Thanks,
Rich
