I have a 1972 Norton Interstate. The original steering lock is still in the crown. Unfortunately I don't have a key is there a way, perhaps by frame/engine MFR # to get one? Or perhaps a locksmith? Or is this just a standard key, or each with a different cut? In New England, USA. Thanks. The bike has been renovated, I was able to obtain a blank for a second ignition key. But this is another animal!

Pull the lock out and give it to a locksmith easy to make a key, the steering lock is really not very good at stopping a theif as they are easy to break my two cattle dogs are better protection or a good lock and chain.

Should cost you ~$35 from British Cycle for a new cylinder with keys. Cheaper than a locksmith I would think.

If there is a number on the cylinder, you may be able to order just keys from them.

the steering lock is the same as BSA / Triumph twins part number 82-6738

so a replacement lock and keys should be easy to find

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRIUMPH-T100-T1 ... SQ&vxp=mtr Yo Griz, just knock it out and put in the aftermarket replacement. $25 USD. That's what I did. Steering locks don't do anything for you anyway. If someone wants your bike, they just pull up in a van, with a few guys, pick it up, through it in the back, and they're gone. On the road, that's how they got my buddies Harley and it weighed in at about 700 lbs..

On my 1970 fastback with the early yolks, my steering lock was loose in the yolk, I locked the bike and on return forgot to unlock it but the pin was just resting on top of the frame lug. Fine until I came to a slow RH junction where the pin dropped and so did I. If you get a metal detector and search the field half way between Witney and Brize Norton you may find it
