Hi guys, couldn't find much on this. I'm getting my 72 ready for pc prep. One of the guys on the forum mentioned I was missing the steering lock plate in one of my pictures if the frame. I bought one from Andover but was wondering if anyone had a picture of where it welds to. I'll try to post some pics later.

steering lock plate?

awesome LAB your the best. ty. Is it necessary to even have? I wonder why it's missing, do people take them off?

ok confused on whether thevlockplate I bought is the right one. Why is there 2 different part numbers it says 16.1909 which I have or 06.5422 which looks thicker and has slots in it. Before I weld thus suckered on, any insight?

Personally, I wouldn't put it back on unless I plan to show it in concours shows. Why?

1) Possibility of heat damage/warping making installation of the bearings hard(er).
2) Difficult to see when everything is assembled.
3) Unlike others, Norton had nothing to hold the lock in, so the lock is mostly worthless.
4) Needs to be pretty close to the correct location to even have the illusion of locking the steering.

ok , It doesn't seem like it really needs it. Plus what young person would know how to start the bike to take it lol if they are gonna take it as I experienced with prev bikes they try to lift it away in a pickup lol. I was just putting it on to fix what was supposed to be on the frame but your right about the heat and bearings, good point.
