Hello all!

Just wanted to introduce myself as I am brand new to the forum.

I am lucky enough to be a new Norton owner. The bike is a one owner 72 Commando with 15,000 miles, the bike was originally a High Rider. Last time it was registered was 1992, it’s been sitting in a barn until I picked it up this weekend.

I have found a good on line community can sometimes save a lot of time and money.

I plan on keeping the bike in the same configuration as it is now, as I think it is a work of art! Im not looking to build a show bike but a nice useable restoration.

Here is a pick of my dad with the bike in the back of my truck. (sorry for the bad cell phone pic..)

Cheers!

Its a '71 with add ons to a HyRyder not a '72 disc brake Combat. Read the 1st post in this forum Technical How to post by Jerry Doe before asking too much about what ya got and what to do with it. That will get you up to speed faster and save us a bit of hassle repeating and repeating common knowledge and exceptions to the rules.

Its looks like a great starter kit with ties to family tradition not all of us can brag about so good on you and welcome to a new world and life style you can't shake off for rest of your life. Let the wife know there is a new mistress to accommodate and sacrifice for money and attention and thrill.

Welcome!

Looks like a Gus Kuhn body kit. You'll have fun with it, I'm sure.

I'll bet it's the Dunstall 2-into-1-into-2 PowerPipe with Decibell mufflers.

Glad to see these new owners coming on line.

Welcome.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I don't think its a 71? the tittle and owner said its a 72. but i am no expert.

I've been checking out all the tips and doing a lot of searching.

from what i understand the exhaust is a Dunstall 2 into 1 into 2. but the mufflers are in pretty bad shape (chrome peeling off). I hope i can salvage them.

I was also lucky enough to get what i was told a Dunstall 810 kit.

It was almost certainly manufactured during 1971 as the engine has the timed camshaft breather and I would expect the (originally matching) engine, frame and gearbox serial numbers to be below 200000? The month/year of manufacture would normally be stamped on the headstock certification plate which looks as if it is still attached to the frame in your photo.

That, my friend, is a kick-ass bike! There's plenty of people out there that would pay big money for some Gus Kuhn bodywork.
What led you to getting a Norton, and more specifically, this Norton? What bikes, if any, have you been riding/wrenching on before?
