Hi Stu, I did a search on here and several folks (including Tonya) have ordered the Lowe 57177 and fitted it so i'm pretty sure it's correct. I've had it on good authority that the other part numbers are correct as well. Did Norton fit different devices through the years?

Cheers,

cliffa.

Cheers Cliffa....searched it out. It seems to cross reference back to a revised Renault number...both work fine and that number work with the 961. The 57174 I liked the way the wiring harness fitted, as it tucks in neatly in the centre of the throttle body.
Yeah Norton did use others before Löwe, VDO and Weber Marelli. Makes me wonder if its worth trying other brands, given how many problems there seems to be with the Löwe units.

Can someone just confirm that idle air motor part number please, as Ive not ordered any for a while, and what Ive jotted down differs? Ive got Löwe 57770 as being standard fitment, and 57174 being the same unit but with the connector at 12 o'clock, as apposed to 9 o'clock.
Cheers!
57177 was stock 9 oclock
Magneti Marelli 8001063373638 9 oclock. (This is the unit we stock fits Renault Clio and is more available here in the USA

and its the one that works well so far. We have installed 8 of them with no issues We have had more failures on the Lowe version. Also the Lowe version seems to respond slower on the new ECU's

Sorry, Magneti-Marelli....not Weber. I'm assuming Norton switched to Löwe due to cost....often the case when ever a new purchaser started, and wanted to make a good impression at saving a couple of quid. I'll order a couple of those up, see how we go, cheers.

So, whilst I have no idea of the long term performance of this relay, I can confirm it works as intended in my bike.

While there are prossibly better relays out there - for my fellow Australians - this is a standard stock item at Supercheap Auto. This makes them very readily available, which when it comes to electricals, that's the right kind of available.

Part number is TR039

For what its worth, if you can stow away a couple of relays and a camshaft sensor under your seat, and keep a 5mm allen key somewhere accessible...its worth while. Granted you wont be able to replace the relays under the tank at the side of the road with just that, but you can certainly cover most other common electrical let downs.

They look potted or sealed , this is good.

I just sent Norton an email about spare parts and was told this……

I responded back and also asked if he could tell me what changes were made to the Classic.

Folks,

As the future of parts for our bikes is uncertain I'm collating a list of alternate parts for 961's. This is purely a list, so please don't start commenting, comparing one against the other or generally derailing (as has been know to happen on the odd occasion here) I've already mentioned this to Jerry and if we can keep it in a common format he will see about putting together a sticky list. So here is what I've got together so far. Feel free to add, but please just the description, manufacturer and their part number plus any helpful notes as you see below. Alternatively just P.M. me and I will add to the list. (It will probably be neater that way actually)

Thanks for sharing this list. I am searching for some original bar grips for the 961 Commando SF. Can you point me in the right direction?

It's oil service time. Does someone know the o-ring sizes for the engine sump plug and gearbox sump plug?

Hi weedy, not sure to be honest. Most folks swap them out for others. Progrip 717 grips have been highly recommended on here.

I hope that helps.

Cliff is correct , I’ve had Pro grips on for 18,000 mikes now , slightly gel like , take a tingle/vibration out of the handlebars, can’t go wrong , inexpensive
