E&V engineering in Michigan supply nikasil lined alloy barrels for A65 BSA at $1700 a shot

Seems like a lot of wheel reinventing going on then doesn't it? Wouldn't it be easier for someone stateside to loan these boys a Norton barrel and see if they'd be interested in marketing Nickasil lined Norton barrels?

I would have thought there'd be quite a market for high quality, standard looking, Nickasil lined, alloy Commando barrels...

There is. It's just not as easy as that. Believe me, I've sweated blood over this one. Nobody's stumped up the money. Except me. I've put 25 grand into it already, and in order for it not to be wasted, the barrels have to be dead right, first time, or it will financially ruin me.

And I take my hat off to you Ken, quite right of you to remind us that you are 'in process' with your own barrels right now!

If I recall correctly, you were planing to use iron liners were you not?

And do you have any thoughts yet on when they might be available?

Ken,
Have you finalised what you will be making available; i.e. capacities, gasketing arrangements & liner materials etc.

The tooling gives me options that can be changed late in the process. Time frame? Who knows? I'm just plodding along, spending money when I've got it.

The Norton cases require in my opinion a large hunk of heavy metal on then [ cylinders ] to help secure the block. My feeling is the aluminum cylinders with iron liners or aluminum liners do not stop the distortion as well as the cast iron cylinder, and hence the issues. Heavy cases of aftermarket design help this situation and allow the possibility for all aluminum cylinders that work. I am no Phi Cappa Nappa or engineer , but common sense tells me this as I look at stock cases of the Commando design.

My plan is to measure some Maney cylinders hot and cold to measure the distortion. Dances with Shrapnel was going to send some junk alum cylinders until he discovered that they were cracked vertically and so measuring them is pointless. So I need some Maney cylinders to play with. I have a shop oven box I built out of ridged foam insulation that I use for another product and it heats up easily to 300 deg. A similar box with holes for the bores and mounts for the bore plates would allow hot honing at a controlled temp to remove the distortion if in fact that is a problem.

But first I need to measure some alum cylinders with and without iron liners and see what if any, or exactly how much distortion is happening. So who's got some cylinders I can use? Damaged is OK as long as they are measurable.
