At Kempton yesterday a forum member came up for chain.

His first words words were something like "I need an O ring chain for my Commando."

He then laughed and purchased an iwis with a crank link. It was nice talking to him and his lady
and I hope he enjoys his chain. It was good to meet a forum member as well as some Norton
guys from clubs I have given talks. Good day, good weather and above all good friends.

Andy joking aside i have a tin of molycote chain lube is it worthwhile soaking the chain in it before use? regards baz

New Chains usually have a grease like lube so thinner oil or solvents remove that protective layer and don't replace it. Boiled in grease after a boil in paraffin-kerosine-diesel is best for chain life but worse for pleasure time tedium and ride clean up. Chain lube ain't for friction per say as nil motion and speed occurs in the links to from a lube surf layer, so mainly to keep the steel particles flushed out of the metal-metal contacts and to help carry off heat if an oil bath so the main reason in exposed chain is to keep environmental grit outside. Constant drip oiler don't get much oil inside a slinging out hot chain motion, mainly flows over off chain to keep grit from getting inside. Worse state is to oil enough to collect grit outside that can work back inside but not enough to flush out insides.

The factory lube is Kluber IP3. Its very good so add
nothing.

Come to Kempton in March and I will show you the best after
market spray there is.

Andy

Ok i usually go to Kempton so i'll come and see you thanks again ,,,,,baz
