While going through the front end on my 850, I found that the original axle was bent. This may well explain some of the problems I've been having in getting a satisfactory result, so I bought a new one (and new springs) from A-N.
The bits arrived today, and the new axle looks wonderful! The sections where the inner bearing races are has been ground to size, the whole thing looks far better than the original.
The amazing thing about Nortons in general and A-N in particular is the availability of parts often made to better than original standard, at generally a very reasonable price (new fork springs at less than £8 each? A bargain!
