New 50 year old race project

Hi

Loaded & of to have a spot of breakfast before I head home.

Sorry cruel lol

I am now the proud owner of Mick Grants Jim Lee framed Commando. Thanks to my friend Howard.
In the package is a race engine! Spec unknown but period looking. A 5 speed Quaife, Norvil disc wheel, 3 fin caliper. 35mm forks & yokes? Alloy petrol & oil tanks.

I must again say John Conroy your Commando knowledge astounds me & I will be in touch about parts, once I confirm what the original spec was.
Hopefully Neil who built the frame says he has a photo of the bike fairing off & unpainted, which would be stunning.

Wow, that is a catch.

I would have thought that MG himself wudda snapped that up ?

Whats the plan then Chris ?"

Need some unpainted ss pipes. Sperex orange heatproof paint lol. Run it unsileced at Donington & hopefully Goodwood. I have enough parts to get it out there quickly. Then when I know its original specification, try & get it closer towards original.

Those appear to be 35mm Betor triple clamps?

Looks like a left boot eating 3 spring clutch was on there at one time.

Good luck with it.

Hi Schwany
Maybe it will get a belt drive lol
Or I use the Neb clutch (single row)
Didnt look at the yokes or forks enough. Howard said he was going to use the 35mm forks & make bushes to suit the Norton fork legs.

Yes a bit of research & then strip down & see what we have.

The fork legs I don't recognize at all, but the yokes look exactly like the Betor yokes that are on my P11, and they are 35mm.

Unique build you have there. Enjoy it.

WOW! What an opportunity.

Is it this bike? Such a crazy picture...

I reread last year's posts about this/these bikes, and checked out the pics of the frame you posted. Looks really well made. I braze for a living and the work on the frame looks really nice. Enviable skills.

Best of luck getting it together.

Edit: You better get some green leathers pronto!

as a slight diversion, also at Kempton yesterday was a 1962-ish Manx rolling chassis, mostly unused ( with Robinson 4LS front wheel) and two brand new magnesium rear wheels and a new Manx magneto .
A very rare set of parts ... had been in a loft in Plymouth for many years.

Chris, you bringing that out to play on the track next year ?

I agree with t ingermanson, going all out with green leathers, orange pipes et al would be cool !

Got to be done green it is! Perhaps even the leathers. Definitely the orange exhaust & JL logo on the helmet.
Thank you all for your comments.
Jan was that the bike on Sam's stall, ie Yeomans motorcycles. Had Alf Hagon labels still on the wheels. New old stock, some stunning stuff there.
He also had a Harley with A10 primary covers & tool box & AJS top ends on someones home made crankcases.
