I have a L/H handlebar switch from CNW. It has 8 wires and controls hi-low beam, turn signals, and horn. I need to know the color code for these wires or at least which one is 12V going into the switch.

Call or write Matt! Or, man-up, get out the ohmmeter, and figure it out :D Sorry Erik, just had to!

Might match one of these:

"This is a modified switch where the wires have been changed to easily adapt to your existing wires in the headlight shell"
I don't know why cNw refer to it as a master switch as it isn't.

When you install his center console, he calls the switch it contains the ignition switch which is what we would normally call the master switch (Off, Ignition, Ignition+Lights). Since he has only a left-hand handlebar switch, I'm guessing he calls it the master switch because it does all the handlebar functions (except start button for e-start bikes).

The center console is negative ground only and mostly he wires negative ground, so his "master switch" likely will require re-thinking in a positive ground system. For instance, AFAIK the turn signals are not an on-off-on switch, they will likely require thought and additional components.

I have one on order so I can determine how to answer these questions and because I have a customer who wants the "master switch" but does not want the center console or negative ground.

All that said, I doubt that the colors match the Lucas colors especially since @seattle##gs knows the Lucas colors and asked the question.

There is a right hand switch cluster. I can't agree that the left hand switch cluster is a master switch.

I can't see how it should take much more than a change of feed wire colour for negative or positive ground but then why say the colours have been changed to match the originals also of course on the majority of Commandos the switch harness doesn't go to the headlamp shell.

Seattle,
I installed one of these switches on my bike and it was not rocket science. I would just ask Matt or get out your multimeter. It won’t take you long and it is nice having all your controls in one switch.

He does not say: "been changed to match the originals", he says: "the wires have been changed to easily adapt to your existing wires". For one thing, no Honda connector and for another, "The wires are lengthen the so that it gives you plenty to work with even with taller handlebars".

That Norton added that jumble of connections under the tank does not mean that it's a smart thing or the only way, it's just a way to add things like Interpol components more easily at the factory. Leaving those connections in place, you can control the high/low beam and turn signals from connections in the headlight shell. Or, you can re-wire getting rid of all those under tank connections like I do.

Yes, if you have an e-start the optional start button is on the right and it's provided in the e-start kit. And the optional start button does provide a on/off switch to replace a kill button. I never use those when I install the e-start so I have them. They are not standard colors or wire type.

An interesting thing about manufacturing - you can call your products what you like!

Were you given a color code with the switch?

If you're curious...I figured out the wires.

HEADLIGHT: brown - 12v in to the switch
white ------- high beam
white-blue - low beam

TURN SIGNALS: orange/blue - 12v into the switch
blue........right turn
orange...left turn

HORN: green/red
purple

This took less time than I thought.
