It's ironic that this is a current topic..
My ' 69 Fastback of 43 years hasn't seen daylight for 6 years, languishing under a tarp in the corner of the shop. Sweat my everything off the last couple weeks in the
shop doing what was needed. 'Course, carbs, rewiring surgery for the points
with the solder gun; kinda tricky as this is an early Commando and the ignition is on the INSIDE of the timing
chest, right under the right carburetor. Tires, fork gaiters, (getting the tubes out of the trees headache !), oil change, etc.
Last night, a bit before midnight, with the Moody Blues serenading me on our classic rock station-
'I'm just a singer' (in a rock and roll band), it was. 1 kick and it fired up ! ran a few seconds then popped a bit, and died on me..bad plug, So, today I rode my ' 74 shovelhead to town even tho it's hotter than a 5 dollar pistol here, beats
ridin' in my a/c-less Bronco. My old Clymer manual recommends Champion
N7Y's, and that is what I inquired about, nope, and no cross reference. I then asked for NGK BP7ES, which is
what I'm replacing. Only thing equivalent to that was what I came home with- Autolite - 63 @ $2.79 each.
Went straight to the shop when I got home and checked the gap - .028, perfect. Installed 'em and took it out on the road
and got 4 rounds on it. Carbs need sorted as it takes some throttle finesse to keep it
running, no surprise. It always did start good tho, dependable and now only getting better. Will have to evaluate
plugs as the miles come on. So great to have it back on the road. No imitating the Norton growl sound
as the throttle is rolled....Access is a great resource and community. Thank You.
