First time on forum. I am attempting to restore 1966 N15CS and need some info as these bikes never got over here (Australia) and was partly pulled down. The problem that I am trying to work out is that I think that the drive chain is running too close to the head of a bolt that goes through the gearbox cradle to frame. When I set it up there is a .889mm / .035 thou. gap between the plate on the chain to head bolt. Is this normal? (chain is not a 'O' Ring type) I have attempted to put photos on site to demonstrate but find it to confusion? Photos on my email account and will forward to anyone that can help.
Regards,
Monaro.

If it's near to the sprocket end of the chain loop, where there isn't much whipping around, the chain might never hit it.

If there is a bit of kissing, you should hear it and/or see marks on the bolt head and the chain long before anything is seriously damaged.

It may be feasible to file the bolt head down, to get more clearance.

I have a thread in this section on a resto I am just finishing; that was an issue I confronted as well. I clearanced the bolt head a little "just in case". The main reason was that i had to pull the entire assembly back down to work on the custom built engine mount plates, so I took the opportunity then to address it.

I've got a P11 and a G15CS. The G15 is still in pieces, but there are a few bolts with thin heads in my box of bits. I would think one of those bolts is for the rear mount. The P11 uses studs in that position, and the one directly behind the drive chain has a thin nut, giving the chain about 1/4" clearance at that point.

Thanks fellows, distance from edge of sprocket to centre of bolt is 4.5 cm so there wont be to much whipping around. I will massage head of bolt to get more clearance. Discovered picture of the restro. they are invaluable to me.
Thanks for all your help.
Cheers,
Monaro.
