Redoing my wiring. New harness on 74 frame. There is a white wire with red stripe coming from the timing side handle bar switch with a male connector. I can't find any corresponding connector to plug it into. My wiring diagram also doesn't show a corresponding wire. Anyone have a clue what's up?

That wire was intended for a starter. I believe that if you have power to the right side switch cluster (white wire) that you will find that wire gets powered up from a normally opened switch which is the top button in the cluster. Opposite of the kill switch which is normally closed in the bottom of the cluster.

Yes, that's the phantom starter wire. That's why that button doesn't do anything until the MkIII (even then it may not do anything!)

Thanks, I shall ignore it. On another wiring issue, I have a bracket for the rear brake lite switch wires but no idea where it mounts.

That red and white wire might come in handy for something that needs momentary power. Like an ejection seat or something. The rear brake switch typically hangs off the bottom of the rear brake lever, so that when the lever is pressed down it stops making contact on the foot rest.

What I meant was an L shaped bracket with a grommet in one end that the wires pass through. It has a bolt hole in the other end.

Yeah, me too. Where does that bracket with the grommet go?

This was on my list of wiring questions I was planning on throwing out there. Yeah me three.

Mine is mounted to one of the bolts that holds the footrest to the Z-plate. It helps hold the wire off the exhaust.

It mounts to the bottom stud that holds the footrest to the Z-plate, rotated forward, but not quite touching the primary cover. The wires come down the inside of the frame tube, through the grommet and plug into the switch. This little bracket holds the wires clear of the exhaust pipe.

Thanks, got it on. Was wondering how to keep wires off exhuast until I found the bracket in a pile of spare parts.

Since the red/white wire is "hot", I used it as a horn button and mounted a FIAMM horn in front of the battery box where it can be heard better.

It could also be used to flash your high beam.
